ABOUT THE ROLE

EEP is seeking a Development Associate to support our ever-evolving fundraising and development initiatives. The right candidate will have ample opportunity to advance their development knowledge in multiple areas of nonprofit fundraising. The ideal candidate is organized, strategic, detail-oriented, energetic, self-motivated, flexible, and able to balance multiple assignments, take initiative to learn new skills and problem solve, and understand and anticipate needs. We are looking for candidates with fundraising experience working with foundations, corporations, and individuals, and who are committed to the Program's mission to make a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable society for all.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Associate Director for Operations and working with the Energy & Environment Program Leadership Team (Executive Director and Assistant Directors), the Development Associate plays a critical role in supporting the team to meet its annual fundraising targets and build relationships with program partners. This position is responsible for identifying and researching new prospects, supporting project leads in their strategy to cultivate donors and solicit gifts, and assisting with the development and implementation of a stewardship strategy.

Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Fundraising Support

  • Identify and research new sources of potential funding from foundations, corporations, government, and individual donors for various projects and program-wide campaigns;

  • Prepare informational packets and other materials (to include talking points) necessary to deepen prospect engagement, secure contributions, and steward relationships;

  • Staff senior leadership on important fundraising meetings and calls, drafting agendas, taking thorough notes, and leading the process for next steps and follow-ups;

  • Generate and coordinate sponsorship proposals, acknowledgement letters, and other funder email communications as necessary;

  • With guidance from project lead, coordinate information and assemble appropriate materials for grant proposals, reports, and documentation;

  • Assist project lead with defining and implementing sponsorship benefits, privileges, recognition, and acknowledgment processes; and,

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and coordination of a cultivation and stewardship strategy.

Database Management

  • Maintain an up-to-date database of current and potential funders that tracks point of contact, correspondence status, and giving history; and,

  • Manage, input, and track all fundraising data to include event sponsorships, donations, grant awards, and status of receipt.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

A successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred;

  • 2-3 years of fundraising and development experience;

  • Strong interest in the work and mission of the Energy & Environment Program and desire to rapidly learn a wide variety of new subject matter;

  • Superior communication, organizational, presentation and writing skills;

  • Excellent computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word and Excel;

  • Experience with prospect research techniques and knowledge of fundraising software strongly preferred;

  • Keen sense of personal integrity and discretion with handling sensitive information;

  • Ability to thrive under stress and pressure;

  • Ability to successfully manage many tasks simultaneously, master workflow details, and self-prioritize;

  • Strong work ethic with the ability to sometimes work long hours when necessary to complete tasks, including evenings and weekends;

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team;

  • Possess a creative, professional, and entrepreneurial spirit; strong intellectual curiosity; and

  • Willingness and ability to travel and staff convenings, as much as 25% certain times of the year.

Level of Authority:

  • May supervise interns or other staff as directed

  • No budget authority
