Travel Involved: Expect to travel up to 5 % of time.


The mechanical maintenance planner is responsible for planning the activities, materials and resources needed to execute maintenance work orders in an efficient, cost effective and optimized way, as part of the Maintenance Planning and Execution work process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review each day the notifications prioritized by the Production Maintenance Coordinator to determine which jobs are to be planned.
  • Process work notifications and work orders properly; ensuring status codes are correct
  • Discuss and understand the notification scope, interacting with the notification issuer and/or maintenance team to understand history, deficiencies, special requirements and possible initial troubleshooting
  • Visit the job site and scope out the job by taking pictures, creating drawings and sketches, and assembling a bill of material. Walking down the job with a craftsman may be required.
  • Enter plans into maintenance work orders by developing within each one a well defined list of tasks with adequately detailed scope of work, including all necessary steps required to perform each task and complete the work order.
  • Ensure maintenance and production personnel have an understanding of work scope by composing appropriate Work Order instructions and discussing plans directly with team members on field walk downs of jobs or when demanded.
  • Assemble job packages, print and file them so the maintenance team can access and review them as needed
  • Drive continual improvement of job plans for safety, quality, accuracy, etc.
  • Identify repeat work, rework, and recurring failures and alerting other functions within the established process
  • Support emergency work when required.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years Maintenance work experience in an industrial plant environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as Maintenance planner.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility to work on-call during off shifts and/or weekends, and work potential overtime, if needed (including weekends and holidays), given advanced notice when possible.
  • Capable of the physical demands related to this position, including frequent walking, standing working in confined spaces, climbing ladders/scaffolding to perform elevated work, repetitive motion, and occasional lifting of weights up to 60 pounds.
  • Good team working skills, including with, technicians, operators, vendors, contractors, peers, and leaders.

Preferred Skills, Education, and Experience:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of a Maintenance Planning and Execution workflow process or a similar maintenance management program.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards, regulations, company standards, and appropriate precautions applicable to work assignments.
  • Ability to locate, read, interpret, and apply technical information to the work on equipment or facilities.
