Role Overview:

This position is responsible for designing and conducting experiments toward the development and improvement of custom polymer compounds. As part of this role you will be the primary person responsible for developing a test plan, analyzing the data, and interpreting the results.

*Previous experience working with recycled polymers is required.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Will report to VP of Engineering.
  • No direct reports initially


  • Help the company evaluate, develop, and utilize new material feed streams for implementation in the core product line.
  • Support new products and assist manufacturing with production implementation.
  • Partner with manufacturing resources to develop test methods and establish process controls for new materials/processes.
  • Collaborate with a multi-faceted team in the development of new products.
  • Conduct extensive research and lab testing to fully evaluate the long-term performance for various plastic water handling products and systems.
  • Actively interface with business and technology leaders to develop custom polymer formulations and/or processes adhering to customer specifications, quality requirements. and operational goals and standards.
  • Provide technical polymer mentorship.
  • Develop and improve skill sets through continuing education and industry conferences.


  • At least 7 years' experience in polymer product support and development.
  • MS or Ph.D. in Material Science, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Laboratory research experience with ASTM specimen molding and testing using FTIR, DSC, TGA, plastometer, tensile, flexural, Izod, SIM for accelerated creep, etc., is essential.
  • A strong team player with a positive and professional attitude, and a strong bias for action to solve challenges.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be willing to be located in the Lexington, KY area.
