The Development Director is accountable for planning and implementing fundraising strategies and tactics to achieve income necessary to attain market and regional goals. Primary duties will include supervising two Development Managers and overseeing the fundraising and logistics for the Pittsburgh Kidney Walk, NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic, Kidney Gift of Life Gala and a new event called Cinema for a Cause.

The Development Director will be responsible for managing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for a portfolio of both existing and new corporate partners, individual donors and special events. This individual will be responsible for growing engagement and revenue across each fundraising channel while leading the development team to their budgetary goal. The ideal candidate must have proven success in fundraising and/or sales and relationship management and will have at least three years experience managing/leading a Team.

The ideal candidate will work alongside the Executive Director to assist with Board and Committee development and recruitment as well as build individual giving pipelines.

Solid organizational, leadership, written and verbal communication skills are necessary for this position. Must have ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and achieve results in a team environment.


  • Leading the development team, driving a donor centric culture, building relationships and implementing best practices to accomplish market and region financial goals.
  • Develop and execute the regions operational plan that includes budget, financial analysis, team development, corporate development, volunteer development, and logistics.
  • Execute fundraising strategies to raise budgeted goal from corporations, individuals, and foundations.
  • Manages and oversees special events including the Pittsburgh Kidney Walk, NKF Konica Minolta Golf Classic, Kidney Gift of Life Gala and NKF Corporate MONOPOLY Tournament.
  • Partner with Executive Director and Regional Vice President growing relationships for major gifts and board/volunteer recruitment.

  • In conjunction with the Development Team, effectively identify, qualify, cultivate, and steward new prospects, sponsors and partners ensuring a high-touch stewardship plan for donors and partners.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with an ability to use data to make decisions and to translate strategy to action.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with an ability to articulate a clear and compelling vision and lead others to implement it.
  • Sound judgment, excellent customer service, and solid organization skills
  • Accountable to develop and steward a portfolio of donors to secure sponsorship, individual and corporate donations, event sponsors/teams, grants, and other partnerships.
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or equivalent customer database software (e.g., data input, record updating, gift processing, report production).
  • Assists with sponsor solicitation for program activities.


  • Identifies new sources of revenue and cause-related marketing opportunities.
  • Implements marketing and communication plan to enhance visibility and increase community awareness and participation.
  • Participates in board and staff meetings as needed.
  • Deliver high customer service to all constituents.
  • Demonstrate integrity, collaboration and stewardship.
  • Performs additional duties as required.


  • Bachelors degree and at least 7-10+ years of experience in fundraising, event/volunteer management and/or sales experience preferably with a non-profit agency.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a management capacity, preferably fundraising staff.
  • Ability to lead and work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Experience with planning walks, golf outings, galas and other social events are a plus!
  • Experienced in sponsorship solicitation, major and annual giving.
  • Ability and experience with recruiting, training, and encouraging top-level donors, volunteers and board members.
  • Excellent listening skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication, active listening, negotiating, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Highly effective organizational skills, time management, responsibility, leadership, and motivation.
  • Proven record of success in account management and developing corporate and individual partnerships that result in exceeding revenue targets.
  • Exceptional level of customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in computer-based information and donor management systems. Salesforce and Rallybound experience a plus!
  • Ability to work outside of standard hours which may involve some evenings and/or weekends.
  • Must be flexible for travel within assigned territory with reliable transportation when it is safe to do so.
