Position Summary

The Discipline of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the Chicago Medical School seeks a full-time educator whose primary responsibility will be to serve as Course Director for the Medical School Clinical Anatomy course. The individual will be responsible for organizing the course, lecturing and teaching in the cadaver lab (together with other faculty), and writing and administering high quality, clinically-relevant assessments. Innovative pedagogy is encouraged, as is involvement in curriculum development and integration. The application should include a curriculum vitae and a statement summarizing the candidate's interest in, and qualifications for this position. Applicants should also provide the names of three individuals familiar with their teaching ability who can provide letters of reference.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Organize course, lecture, and teach in the cadaver lab (together with other faculty),
  • Write and administer high quality, clinically-relevant assessments
  • Develop and teach courses in clinical anatomy to M.D. medical students in an interprofessional setting
  • Mentor M.D. students in aspects of the curriculum and in their professional development
  • Provide excellent teaching
  • Embrace and promote diversity
  • Serve on assigned committees as needed
  • Work as part of an interdisciplinary team of biomedical scientists and clinicians to develop novel interactive medical educational materials and curricula
  • Developing didactic and interactive team-based learning activities in clinical anatomy within and outside primary areas of expertise
  • Supervise, interact and mentor medical students in a variety of learning activities
  • Other duties as assigned by the Discipline Chair, Cell Biology and Anatomy

Required Education & Experience
  • MD or PhD and experience teaching human Anatomy.
  • Demonstrated productivity and contribution (e.g. presentations, publications, patents, etc.) to a relevant professional field.
  • Excellent leadership and administrative skills, and experience in medical and/or graduate education.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and basic science faculty.
  • Ability to translate core competencies and learning objectives into an effective medical education curriculum.
  • Demonstrated productivity and contribution (e.g. presentations, publications, patents, etc.) to a professional field.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Office.
  • Display professionalism for the college in all communication and interaction.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize numerous and varied assignments.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, versatile, self-directed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LCME, ACGME and/or other relevant accrediting bodies

Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions
  • Will be teaching in the cadaver lab while standing for a few hours at a time.
  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
