A key team member of Loyola's almost-30-year-old Center for Community, Service, and Justice (CCSJ), the Assistant Director for Student Supervision oversees the hiring, training, formation, development, and performance of 30-50 undergraduate student interns, student work-study, and graduate students who directly support student and faculty engagement and partnerships with community partner agencies throughout Baltimore City, especially organizations in our York Road communities, and who serve as student ambassadors for civic and community engagement initiatives and special projects to advance CCSJ's mission to connect Loyola's campus (students, faculty, knowledge, and resources) and our community (local to global) for a more just and equitable world.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Oversee selection, hiring, training, development, placement, and job performance of 30-50 undergraduate student interns, work-study students, France-Merrick Service & Justice Scholars, and 3-5 graduate student assistants.

Lead CCSJ Student Internship/Fellow program, including ensuring appropriate intern placement with community agency, oversight, and guidance of student interns. Ensure successful student formation for diversity, leadership, and justice, as well as job performance regarding agency partnerships, program coordination, job responsibilities, and social justice and racial justice learning.

Recommend CCSJ colleagues to serve as supervisors of student interns and provide oversight and guidance to those supervisors to ensure timely performance evaluations and that interns incorporate Ignatian Pedagogy (context, experience, reflection, action, evaluation), anti-racist experiential educational principles, community development theories, Catholic social teaching, and social justice concepts into training and education of other volunteers.

Call and lead regular meetings of CCSJ colleagues that supervise student interns to review student intern performance and progress, make recommendations for policies and coordinate programming.

Develop, oversee and implement procedures to ensure CCSJ Intern Program and student learning assessments, proper documentation, data collection, and service/reflection coordination from all student interns.

Monitor progress and program administration of CCSJ Intern Program, including oversight of intern subgroups like student work-study placement, supervision and evaluation, and/or France-Merrick Scholars. Update student intern reflection outlines and schedules. Collect and regularly disseminate data and stories to the supervisor.

Oversee liability questions and concerns, including safety and security of student interns and student participants in CCSJ.

2. Plan and implement curriculums, trainings, and reflections for student leader personal and professional learning, formation, and community impact.

Work with CCSJ colleagues, especially the Associate Directors, to plan training and professional development for student interns, work-study, graduate assistants, and student leaders.

Lead planning and implementation of a one to two-week pre-fall semester student intern and graduate student orientation and training, including a full schedule of team building, educational and skills sessions, logistics, and organizational details.

Lead, plan, and implement a one-day January training for undergraduate student interns and graduate students.

Support ongoing curriculum development of and coordination of CCSJ's racial justice education curriculum and ongoing racial justice formation for student interns and student leaders.

Oversee ongoing student professional development, intern meetings, and student affinity groups.

Regularly develop recommendations for the CCSJ Associate Directors for ongoing needs.

3. Directly supervise and evaluate 5-10 undergraduate student interns and/or work-study

Meet bi-weekly with each student intern to provide oversight and guidance regarding partnerships, program administration, job responsibilities and social justice and racial justice learning (guides personal and professional development). Conduct performance evaluations. Ensure that student interns incorporate Ignatian Pedagogy (context, experience, reflection, action, evaluation), experiential educational principles, community development theories, Catholic social teaching, and racial and social justice concepts into training and education of volunteers. Provide regular feedback on student interns' performance and partnership impacts.

Participate in the development of and assessment of student learning outcomes and program learning outcomes.

Lead a Racial Justice biweekly reflection group for student interns/student leaders and participate in ongoing curriculum development and evaluation.

May serve as a Messina Mentor.
