Marketing Specialist - TN
Consistent with the mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Marketing Director, the Marketing Specialist is responsible for helping execute the organization's key membership and program marketing campaigns, with a particular emphasis on copywriting and email marketing.
The Marketing Specialist will work closely with the creative team and broader Marketing department, but should be a self-starter who can work well independently and quickly. Passion for both the Y's mission and job at hand, a willingness to take direction and constructive feedback, and commitment to accuracy are essential qualities for the position.
Essential Functions:
COPYWRITING
- Develop engaging short-form and long-form creative copy for various marketing needs, including but not limited to:
- Digital (display and search/PPC), broadcast radio/TV, print and direct mail advertising
- Print brochures and other customer-facing collateral
- Product information/descriptions
- Point of Sale materials and any other marketing communications needed to fulfill the Y's marketing objectives
- Proofing and editing copy and other written materials as assigned/needed to ensure they meet the Y's brand voice, style and related standards
- Participating in the brainstorming and pitching of marketing campaigns and other creative concepts with other members of the creative/Marketing team
EMAIL MARKETING
- Responsible for the planning, creation, scheduling, testing, execution and tracking of the Y's key promotional emails, marketing automations, and other customer-facing email marketing campaigns
- Work collaboratively with other members of the Marketing team to enhance and improve the success of the Y's e-commerce campaigns
- Proactively segment and maintain targeted e-mail lists for all assigned campaigns and promotions
- Set up and maintain triggered or automated e-mail campaigns
- Conduct and track split tests and other research to optimize all assigned e-mail marketing campaigns for effectiveness and ROI
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for other YMCA staff as it relates to e-mail marketing systems, processes and best practices; provides training as-needed
MARKETING CAMPAIGN SUPPORT
- Provide project management support of all key marketing campaigns as assigned by the Marketing Director
- Support the planning, execution and administration of other marketing deliverables as directed by the Marketing Director
- Participate in the creative execution of marketing campaigns as assigned, including but not limited to assisting with photoshoots and brainstorming broadcast concepts
Requirements:
- Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
- Superior marketing copywriting and editing skills (writing portfolio will be required of all serious candidates)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to distill anything down to its essence and thrive on getting to the heart of the matter
- Ability to conceptualize, write, review and edit stories that bring strategy to life, unfold across platforms, and increase engagement
- Comfortable with writing for screens of all shapes and sizes and brainstorming with your team about great content and great campaigns
- Ability to both work collaboratively and independently
- Ability to balance brand style with exciting creative copy/concepts
- Experience planning, executing and tracking successful email marketing campaigns, including but not limited to audience targeting/segmentation, copywriting, design, A/B testing and automation/triggered email series, is preferred
- Knowledge and experience with marketing production systems and processes
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to pitch and discuss ideas confidently with upper management
- Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
- Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks and multiple deadlines
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software programs, as well as able to use most office equipment
- Knowledge of advertising design principles. Experience with InDesign and Photoshop preferred
- Proven experience and proficiency with email marketing and customer relationship management (CRM) is preferred
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related degree
- Minimum of three years' copywriting experience in an agency or in-house marketing team environment is highly desired
