Marketing Communications Specialist - School Age Services
Consistent with the mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the supervision of the Director of Member Communications and in consultation with the organization's Before and After School Childcare Program leadership, the Marketing Communications Specialist manages and executes the day-to-day marketing and communications activities required to support the Y's Before and After School Childcare program, School Age Services. The Marketing Communications Specialist engages key audience groups by creating and delivering time-sensitive updates and compelling content across multiple communication platforms including email and social media to further the Y's non-profit mission.
Essential Functions:
- Models the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
- Leads email marketing and operational email communications as directed for school year needs, school breaks, summer programming, site closures/updates, parent/school officials communications, and any grant-related communication needs
- Leads content planning and execution for YMCA Fun Co. social media presence, including timely program updates, engaging promotional registration content, philanthropic campaign support, and staff recruitment initiatives
- Gathers program-related content (photos, social-friendly videos, stories) that drives engagement across channels and that can be repurposed among the Y's other channels with key audience segments, including donor communications
- Serves as the primary liaison between Marketing & Communications and School Age Services, including providing guidance and direction to program staff seeking marketing and communications deliverables and/or support
- Assists in the project planning and management of all program marketing and communications campaigns, including serving as project manager
- Under the direction of the Y's Marketing & Communications department, supports the timely updating and maintenance of School Age Services web site (ymcafunco.org)
- Supports Site Directors and program staff with creation of templates for scheduled parent communications and other assistance as directed by program leadership
- Proofs and edits copy and other written materials (including parent handbook and participant forms) as assigned by program leadership
- Serves as program's liaison with the Y's Marketing & Communications Dept. for internal and external video/multimedia projects
- Supports School Age Services' philanthropic and mission awareness goals, including but not limited to gathering and identifying potential stories and testimonials, copywriting, and other communications deliverables
- Supports School Age Services with other communications efforts as assigned
Requirements:
- Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA
- Superior writing and editing skills (editorial test will be required of all serious applicants)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently, and effectively propose and discuss new ideas with leadership
- Adaptable, independent learner willing to adopt new tools and expand functional skillset
- Solid computer skills (Microsoft Office, blogging platforms, web content management systems, and social media platforms)
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Writing, or a related field preferred
- Two years relevant experience in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field preferred
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Familiarity with HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, and other digital design tools preferred
- Experience writing/producing to a brand's voice, style and messaging standards
- Video production experience (storyboarding, shooting, and editing) a plus
