WakeMed is currently seeking a Medical Director, Trauma Services & Research. As a clinical team we currently have 15 physicians, 16 Physician Assistants and resident support. Call is no more than 1 in 10 nights and is staffed with residents or physician assistants. Call coverage and clinical responsibilities will be shared among team members. The Trauma director will lead the medical multidisciplinary activities of the Trauma Program for the WakeMed system. The role of the Trauma Medical/Surgical Director will be to pursue the full development of the trauma center in terms of quality of care, volume, scope of services and cost-effectiveness, and to organize and manage the overall physician/surgeon component of the trauma service. Reports to Executive Medical Director of WakeMed Physician Practices General Surgery/Trauma. Develops, coordinates and provides input on the development and maintenance of practice guidelines, policies and methodologies for trauma medical/surgical patient care. Demonstrates consistent, efficient, cost effective, quality trauma medical/surgical care at all times. Reports quality of care issues promptly to appropriate individuals, including Trauma Program Manager, Risk Manager, Chief of Staff and Administration. Coordinates, chairs and participates in all relevant trauma medical QA/PI/UR and peer review activities as required by the Medical Staff, Trauma Service and Hospital. Manages patients in consultation with referring physicians and provides feedback regarding clinical care in the trauma region. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager to establish trauma program goals and objectives consistent with those of the hospital and ensure that those of the trauma service are being met. Collaborates with the Medical Director of Surgical Critical Care to assure appropriate care policies and practices are in place. Consistently demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, hospital personnel, and patients/family in order to achieve maximum operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction. The ideal candidate will have served for a minimum of 2 years in a leadership capacity related to trauma and/or surgical services. This position reports to the Director of Surgery and supports the mission, values, and management of WPP. Qualified candidates must be currently Board Certified or Board Eligible by an American Medical Specialty Board in Surgery. We do not provide visa sponsorship opportunities.
