The School of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time human anatomy instructor to begin Fall 2022. We seek an enthusiastic, talented, motivated, and collaborative individual with a PhD and experience in teaching human anatomy. The candidate will take over the teaching and mentoring responsibilities for an established and nationally recognized undergraduate human anatomy program.
Primary teaching responsibilities will include:
1. Serve as lead instructor for BIOL 2325, Human Anatomy: teach two lecture sections each semester, with 24 TA-lead cadaver laboratory sections. Total enrollment ~ 500 students/semester. Instructor is assisted by a laboratory coordinator and undergraduate TAs. Duties include in-person teaching (lecture classes), working with the anatomy lab coordinator to develop, maintain and manage lab sections, training and overseeing teaching assistants for both lecture and lab courses and grading. Teaching will begin August 22, 2022 with course offerings each fall and spring semester.
2. Serve as lead instructor for advanced courses in human anatomy or related subjects.
3. Review, improve, and maintain the curricula for the above courses in collaboration with other instructors and the curriculum committee.
4. Work with the laboratory coordinator to ensure maintenance of the anatomy laboratory and proper handling of cadavers and human tissues.
5. Serve on school and university committees and collaborate with other faculty and staff to advance the teaching mission of the university.
Requirements:
Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g. biology, anatomy, physiology) and demonstrated success in teaching anatomy. Documented excellence in the teaching of human anatomical sciences (gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, embryology, and/or histology) are required. We are particularly interested in identifying candidates who are able to bring evolutionary, comparative and functional perspectives to anatomy instruction.
