Description: Assistant Professor (tenure-track). This position has 70% Extension/15% Research/15% Teaching appointment.
Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences is seeking an individual to provide leadership in Extension and applied research activities related to ruminant livestock in Maryland. The candidate will be expected to develop and support Extension programming as a member of a multidisciplinary team and to develop and maintain an applied research program. The Extension and research programming is open to any discipline within the animal sciences related to ruminants. Specialties may include: environmental management, sustainable grazing, forage digestion and utilization, gut physiology or microbiology, or other topics. The applicant will have access to Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station facilities (https://ansc.umd.edu/research/research-centers) including dairy and beef cattle with 600 acres of forage crops. Maryland is an active area for niche marketing, and is in close proximity to one of the most densely populated consumer areas of animal products in the U.S. In addition, our location in the Washington DC metropolitan area offers a wealth of opportunities for collaborations with government agencies such as the USDA (ARS and NRCS), and EPA. The Department of Animal and Avian Sciences has a steadfast commitment to excellence and seeks to be a national leader in education and research in animal sciences. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Range Science, or a related discipline.
Preferences:
Preferred qualifications include demonstrated success in Extension programing and clear prospects for extramural funding and outstanding prospects for extramural funding.
Physical Demands: Significant bench work for research and standing for teaching.
