Assistant Professor of Interior Design #42365
The University of Louisville is accepting applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Interior Design area of the Fine Arts Department.
Founded in 1798, the University of Louisville is one of the oldest municipal universities in the United States. With a current enrollment of 22,000 students, it is Kentucky's major urban university. The Department of Fine Arts, endowed as the Hite Institute of Art & Design, is the most comprehensive Fine Arts program in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Majors may earn degrees at the BA, BFA, MA or MFA levels with concentrations in Design, Studio Art, Art History and Curatorial Studies. The Department currently has 15 Tenure Track faculty members, a full-time staff of four, and 302 undergraduate and graduate majors. It operates on-campus and downtown galleries with active exhibition schedules and connects faculty and students with Louisville's design community, thriving arts scene, and expansive industries.
Preferred candidates will play an essential role in shaping the future of Interior Design at Hite Art Institute and its relationship to the university. They will demonstrate a global perspective that advances diversity and inclusion by promoting community engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration with academic departments to meet the changing needs of business and professions.
Responsibilities include advising and instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, maintenance of the Interior Design program area and stewardship of CIDA-accredited Interior Design program of the Fine Arts Department. Engagement in faculty governance and the ability to contribute meaningfully to a diverse and inclusive educational environment are paramount.
Preferred candidates will be expected to participate in developing a new curriculum around research-based design and client-based experiential learning. They will present strong evidence of an emerging or established scholarly profile, a clear knowledge of theoretical discourses, and contemporary practices in Interior Design, as well as fluency with and the ability to teach current and developing design software platforms and technologies. (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Suite Programs.) Proficiency in computer programs that include fabrication technology and virtual reality/augmented reality is also desired.

Qualifications for consideration include a terminal degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a closely related field, and a minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience. NCIDQ and/or LEED certification is preferred or should be obtained within three years of hire. Experience in the CIDA-accreditation process is also preferred.
