Assistant Professor
The UGA Department of Dance invites applications for a 9-month Assistant Professor tenure-track faculty position in Dance beginning August 1, 2022. A Terminal Degree (MFA or PhD degree) in Dance or related field along with two years prior teaching experience at the university or professional level is required. Competitive applicants will demonstrate engagement in creative activity and/or scholarly research.
The successful applicant will teach Contemporary Dance (broadly defined), and possess expertise for developing and teaching Aerial Dance courses. Additional areas of preferred competence include Laban Movement Analysis, Dance Composition, Improvisation, and Dance Technology/Digital Dance, but other areas of expertise that contribute to the dance major are welcomed. Competitive applicants will have a background in directing dance concerts and/or alternative performances. Committee assignments and other administrative duties are expected.
Additional responsibilities may include academic advising, supervision of dance production courses, choreographing for mainstage productions, and others as assigned. The University of Georgia is a leading research university, and tenure track faculty are expected to develop a creative and/or scholarly research program that will lead to regional, national, and/or international prominence. The UGA Department of Dance, within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, offers the A.B. degree with an option of teacher certification and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Dance. Students also may elect a Double Dawg degree, earning a Master's Degree in Non-Profit Management with an additional year of study. Dance Internships and Study Abroad experiences are also offered. Four tenure-track, two Lecturers, and additional adjunct faculty and staff serve undergraduate dance majors, dance minors, and 600-800 other university students each year. Department supported performances include UGA Dance company, Young Choreographers Series, Ballroom Performance Group, and others. Annual performances are held in the New Dance Theatre, a flexible theatre space in the Dance Building.
