Academic Advisor
The Office of Study Abroad (OSA) at Tulane University is housed in the Center for Global Education, a unit of Newcomb-Tulane (undergraduate) College. The OSA is responsible for the management and oversight of summer, semester, and yearlong study abroad options for students pursuing degrees in the Schools of Liberal Arts, Science & Engineering, Architecture, and Public Health. These options include programs administered inâÂÂhouse, such as direct enrollment, exchange, and faculty-led programs, as well as those administered by third-party providers or consort arrangements.
Reporting directly to the Associate Director for Intercultural Learning, the Academic Advisor within the Office of Study Abroad works closely with Tulane faculty and academic advisors, international partners, and program providers to provide initial and ongoing advising and administrative assistance in support of study abroad opportunities for Tulane undergraduates. The Advisor is also expected to collaborate closely with the Associate Director for Study Abroad Operations in appropriately routing and responding to student requests for information and assistance. The Advisor is expected to pursue this work in alignment with the overall mission of the Center for Global Education and its learning goals for study abroad.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The primary responsibilities will include: counseling students about Tulane-approved study abroad programs; guiding students through the application and pre-departure process; planning and supervising outreach activities and orientations for perspective and returned students; supervising peer advisors; developing digital advising material; engaging with returned study abroad alumni through re-entry workshops and webinars; and proactively networking with departments on campus to promote global education. Potential service as an on-site coordinator for summer programs abroad may be requested and some foreign and domestic travel is required.
