System Analyst/Developer, Information Technology Services
The System Analyst/Developer position requires strong business skills and is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and modifying systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing to support application systems.
The incumbent will consult with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives, and will also be responsible for writing documentation to describe custom configuration of applications and operating procedures and to liaison with 3rd party application providers as appropriate.
Typical Work (many, but not necessarily all, of these activities could be responsibilities of the incumbent in this position):
- Provide technical expertise and recommendations in assessing new IT software projects and initiatives; Assist in the creation of the system design and functional specifications for new development projects as appropriate
- Identify opportunities that can improve efficiency of business processes; Provide assistance and advice to business users in the effective use of applications and information technology
- Investigate and resolve application functionality related issues and provide first level support and troubleshooting; Assist in troubleshooting software application issues
- Provide programming support for IT projects; Troubleshoot technical issues and identify modifications needed in existing applications to meet changing user requirements
- Write technical procedures and documentation for the applications including operations, user guide, etc., and produce technical documentation for new and existing applications
- Serve as a liaison and facilitator with university departments to assist in addressing and resolving IT software issues
- Systems administration for information systems including the Windows and Linux systems; maintenance of systems software, database administration (MS SQL Server) production and development environments
- Other duties as assigned
Areas of specific system responsibilities:
- Write, update and maintain reports for Banner Student, Advancement, HR, Payroll and Position Control
- Primary responsibility for software development and support for the following areas: Payroll, Human Resources, Position Control and Business Office
- Primary responsibility for the administration and support of TimeClock Plus including integration with Banner and the time clocks
- Responsibility for supporting IntelleCheck
- Support for ION energy monitoring system and Utility Dashboards
- Secondary support for the StarRez systems
- Secondary support for Campus Receivable Collector (CRC) application
- Write, update and maintain SQL coded procedures for Banner
- Write, update and maintain C programs for Banner
- Backup for the daily operations in the area of report request management and batch job submission
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related field, OR four years of related work experience demonstrating technical knowledge, OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience
- Working knowledge of relational databases and database administration
- Working knowledge of SQL
- Working knowledge of or proven capability to quickly learn programming language(s), unix, report generators, database management
- Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, peers, clients, including faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
- Demonstrated strong teamwork / group project skills, including the ability to pay attention to detail and deal with a number of tasks simultaneously
- Excellent customer service skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field
- Working knowledge of system administration, including experience in Windows and unix systems
- Employment experience in an educational setting
- Experience using IBM AIX and/or Linux
- Knowledge of Oracle, MS SQL Server, C, Java, XML, TOAD
- Knowledge of Ellucian Banner system and PageBuilder a strong plus
- Familiarity with financial and/or human resources systems desirable
LOCATION:
The ideal Candidate would be willing and able to relocate to Kirksville, Missouri, to provide services on site. Howerver strong candidates who are only able to consider remote employement will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
