Description of Positions: The Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, invites applications for a permanent full-time tenured or tenure-track position, either at the Assistant or Associate level to begin August 16, 2022.
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
Duties: Contribute to one or more of the College's research areas through graduate and undergraduate teaching, scholarship, and grant-seeking in media technology and journalism. Teach courses in the Murrow College of Communication, including the Department of Journalism and Media Production. In addition, candidates are expected to collaborate with interdisciplinary research groups and centers.
The Murrow College of Communication features two undergraduate departments, Strategic Communication and Journalism and Media Production. The Murrow graduate program includes residential MA and Ph.D. programs as well as a professionally oriented online MA program. Our faculty embrace multiple methodologies and research approaches working within a highly collaborative environment. Murrow College houses top-tier research infrastructure to support highly productive research faculty. Our facilities include a survey lab, focus group facility, interview rooms, virtual reality lab, and psychophysiological, eye tracking experiment labs.

Requirements for Assistant Professors: Earned Ph.D. or nearing completion of the dissertation in communication or a related area before the date of hire but with all Ph.D. degree requirements completed before the start of employment, as well as evidence of potential for a productive research agenda in one of the preferred areas and evidence of potential for successful teaching.
Requirements for Associate Professor: Earned Ph.D. in communication or a related area before the date of hire; a record that indicates a nationally recognized research program in communication that meets Murrow College standards for tenure and evidence of successful teaching.
Preferences: We seek candidates with demonstrated success in research and teaching focused on the general area of news and society with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: media technologies; media ethics; media law; news literacy. Additional focus areas could include misinformation/disinformation or intercultural/international issues with media technologies in journalism. We prefer candidates with a strong research record in news and society who can demonstrate success in or high potential for securing extramural research funding.
