The Executive Director for Human Resources serves as the Chief Human Resources professional and provides expert consultation, assistance and/or direct administration of the human resource functions for the College of St. Scholastica (CSS). The position provides vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the human resource activities of the college, overseeing all areas of Human Resources and promotes engagement of talent for all divisions of the college.
Responsibilities include the development and administration of human resource policies for approximately 600 faculty and staff; oversight of recruitment and onboarding for all positions; employee engagement and performance management; leadership and employee training and development; compensation, benefits, wellness, payroll and supervision of the Human Resource office. This position is responsible for compliance with all employment laws in order to support our employees and mitigate risk to the College. Principles of diversity, affirmative action, and equal employment opportunity will be applied to all college human resources practices. The position involves significant discretion and substantial involvement in the development, interpretation and implementation of college policy. Additionally, the Executive Director is responsible for institutional initiatives related to increasing and maintaining diversity within the CSS community and fostering equal opportunity for faculty and staff.
This position provides confidential advice to the President and administrative team about human resource concerns, and reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive work experience in human resource management; three (3) of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- Knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws and regulations, and workers' compensation reporting laws and requirements.
- Ability to make timely decisions, exhibit sound and accurate judgment.
- Able to delegate work assignments, set expectations and monitor delegated activities.
- Strong and effective verbal and written communication.
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate and recommend options and relate sensitively to internal and external colleagues and constituents.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master's Degree.
- Experience working in Higher Education; experience working with the College & University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR).
- Knowledge and experience with HRIS software.
- Human Resources Certification
