Development Specialist
While this is a remote position within Susan G. Komen, the candidate must reside within the Houston area.
The Development Specialist for Houston, Central & East Texas serves in a fundraising and program support role. This position will be a part of a year-round cultivation and engagement strategy for key community constituencies focused on MORE THAN PINK Walk /Race for the Cure participants and other donors, survivors and those living with metastatic disease and event volunteers. This position has direct responsibility for the MTPW/RFTC volunteer program, communications, and administrative staff support, in addition to serving as an important member of the local Development team to assist in the revenue goals for the market.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Supports Development Director and Development Manager with recruitment of corporate, individuals, and teams, including follow-up phone calls, organizing meetings, and speaking opportunities to promote event participation and revenue generation.
- Responsible for the recruitment, training, coordination, and recognition of volunteers for the MORE THAN PINK Walk and other year-round fundraising programs in the community.
- Work collaboratively with Komen Marketing team on local content and support for website and social media.
- Provide administrative support to the development staff and volunteers by assisting in ongoing special fundraising event planning and activities.
- Assist in implementing logistics for events, including MORE THAN PINK Walk /Race for the Cure and other fundraising events.
- Develop timelines and systems to improve the distribution of materials and effectively manage tasks for fundraising events and programs.
- Support reporting for development team to track revenue and expenses to maintain approved budget and revenue goals.
- Partner with staff to review expenses and make cost-effective vendor recommendations.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of proprietary information.
- Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor and senior management.
- Provides leadership in building confidence and a strong working relationship between the community and Susan G. Komen as an organization.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the Susan G. Komen mission and programs to promote the field and campaign fundraising initiatives.
- Maintains a productive and collaborative relationships with all Komen staff; participates on regional and enterprise projects and committees as appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and minimum 2 years experience in fundraising, special events and team management.
- 2 years fundraising experience overseeing $500K+ in revenue, through peer-to-peer fundraising events, major gifts, and sponsorship.
- Strong volunteer recruitment and management skills and demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service and motivation to business and social leaders.
- History of being able to multi-task, meet deadlines, excellent customer service, detail-oriented, technical savvy with Office suite and video conferencing
- Previous experience working with and coordinating volunteers.
- Excellent planning, organizational and follow-up skills.
- Demonstrated professional and mature interaction with other staff and leadership volunteers, sponsors, donors, and others to engage them toward the achievement of revenue goals.
- Experience with social media tools.
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access). Experience using databases is a plus.
- Detail-oriented and strong organizational skills.
- Effectively multi-task, establishes priorities, and work in a fast-paced environment. Highly efficient in time management and can meet deadlines under pressure.

- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the market and work evenings and weekends as needed.
Must reside within the market being supported and be willing and able to travel through geographic service area.
Education: Bachelor's Degree: Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Entrepreneurship; other equivalencies considered.
