Advertisement The Residence Life department at St. Catherine University invites applications for an Area Director position. This is a regular, full-time position.
Grounded in centering the student experience and founded at an institution committed to social justice, the Residence Life department provides innovative and educational services that lifts voices and offers support, by fostering meaningful experiences for our students and families living on campus. The Area Director supports the learning and engagement of a diverse group of students living on campus through the direct supervision of our Residence Coordinator position. This role serves as a support and advocate with students in their leadership and influence at St. Kate’s and beyond. This live-on position also serves in a duty capacity, helping students through learning moments and crisis. This position reports directly to the Director of Residence Life.
Responsibilities:
- Support strategies and initiatives to support, recruit, and retain students of all identities, with attention to students of marginalized identities to the residence halls. Utilize data driven and intentional ideas to create experiences to retain students.
- Use data driven practices to inform and improve our current departmental practices
- Select, train, evaluate and supervise a 1.0 FTE Residence Coordinator or Graduate Student, support supervision of paraprofessional staff members during both the academic year and summer.
- Support the administration of the Residence Life Program, including major annual events such as room preview, fall move-in, housing sign-up, staff selection, etc.
- Oversee and organize implementation of community development and engagement plan.
- Support the Living Learning Communities and programming efforts
- Support student leadership initiatives that engage students and create ties to university
- Curate content for our social media and departmental communication plan.
- Serve as a formal student conduct hearing officer for the university.
- Assist in the development of Residence Life policies and procedures.
- Provide coaching, support, and mediation to students in crisis.
- Support approximately 700+ students in 8+ facilities with crisis intervention in duty rotation.
- Assume shared on-call campus duty year-round and coordinate emergency response as needed, which may include coordination with off-campus partners such as local hospitals.
- Serve as a liaison to the facilities department and assist the Director of Residence Life in facilities management for designated areas.
- Manage and monitor assigned budgets for areas of responsibility.
- Provide leadership and support to campus committees and long-term work-groups supporting the common goal of student retention and persistence.
- Participate in summer conferences and event services applicable to Residence Life.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of full-time residence life experience or a Master’s degree with one year of residence life experience as either a student or a full-time employee.
- Experience in emergency response and crisis intervention.
- Supervision of student staff.
- Experience collaborating successfully with colleagues and external partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience adjudicating student conduct
- Student support follow up and management
