Staff Attorney
Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) is a non-profit law firm serving the 22 parishes east of the Atchafalaya basin. We have offices in Baton Rouge, Covington, Hammond, Harvey, Houma and New Orleans. We provide free civil legal aid to low-income households. SLLS is seeking a Staff Attorney in Baton Rouge for the Capital Area. This position will be 60% Disaster Legal Relief and 40% Foreclosure Prevention. The attorney would provide legal assistance with disaster legal issues including FEMA problems, FEMA appeals, disaster-related successions, foreclosure cases, and other legal issues to help preserve homeownership for vulnerable people in the Capital Area. Community-based legal clinics and outreach activities to reach disaster survivors and homeowners facing potential foreclosure is anticipated.
The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate: • Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral communication, client counseling, advocacy, research, dedication to serving vulnerable people and social service referrals. • Dependability, good work habits, self-motivation, capacity to work well with others. Full-time staff attorney positions require admission to practice law in Louisiana. Starting salary for a full time staff attorney is $50,000 -$69,800 depending on experience. Bilingualism is a plus that receives extra compensation.
