Assistant Vice President for the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communication

Reporting to the vice president for the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communication (OMSC), the assistant vice president will be responsible for collaborative leadership in the creative development, implementation and measurement of strategic marketing communications that elevate Simpson’s brand awareness and image with priority focus on contributing directly to goal-exceeding results in undergraduate and Continuing Graduate and Online Education (CGOE) recruitment. Partnering with admissions leadership and other colleagues college-wide, she or he will lead the marketing team in developing and delivering well-integrated and highly effective marketing initiatives/campaigns that reflect best practices in higher education.
The successful candidate will be a results-oriented, collaborative leader with a proven track record in marketing communications, possessing a strong understanding of the competitive landscape in higher education. Intimate knowledge and experience delivering innovative excellence in digital marketing is essential, especially as it relates to ensuring a consistently dynamic and engaging Website and social media presence.
As well as having exceptional interpersonal communication and organizational skills for fostering positive and productive relationships across teams and throughout campus. This is very much a hands-on position requiring direct creative content contributions, especially as they relate to crisp and compelling copy writing for a variety of purposes and media.
Most of all, it is imperative that the successful candidate demonstrate an empathy for and commitment to the mission of Simpson College.
Position Responsibilities:
- In consultation with senior leadership, partner with colleagues in marketing, undergraduate and CGOE admissions, and advancement to develop and implement college and division-specific marketing communication strategies, standards and best practices.
- Ensure that the design and execution of all marketing initiatives authentically reflect the mission and values of Simpson College, including the responsible and affirming depiction of diversity on campus.
- Establish metrics to determine the effectiveness of marketing communication initiatives and prepare performance reports that include analysis and recommendations for enhancing results.
- Assist in the design, implementation and oversight of an evolving Website content strategy and editorial practices that ensure consistent, timely and effective focus on well-defined enrollment-based priorities.
- Work to develop and manage an effective SEO program for maximizing/optimizing Website traffic. Additionally, assist in the development of Search Engine Marketing and other online marketing strategies.
- Manage relationships with external marketing vendors in pursuit of key marketing strategies and opportunities, including paid advertising.
- Develop strong relationships with faculty, staff and students while exuding a positive, listening-first, can-do spirit in identifying and pursuing collaborative opportunities to illuminate the Simpson story.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 5+ years comparable/related marketing communications experience; supervisory skills are required. Proven success in leading/contributing to desired marketing performance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor 's degree and 7+ years of marketing, marketing analytics, communications, and project oversight experience strongly preferred;
- Experience developing, driving and contributing content to produce desired marketing results through diverse communications channels, including print, video, digital and social media;
- Excellent proficiency with analytic tools and reporting, as well as skilled use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and other relevant software;
- Strong organizational and creative skills with the ability to manage multiple projects;
- Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment;
- Higher education experience, especially in relation to developing and executing marketing communication strategies for enrollment
