SCOPE OF ROLE
Reporting to the Medical Director, Psychiatry, the Associate Medical Director, Psychiatry provides medical and clinical leadership to ensure the highest standards of psychiatric and behavioral health care are provided to patients of Signature Health. The Associate Medical Director of Psychiatry directly supervises psychiatric and addiction medicine treatment providers by providing clinical oversight and consultation to the facility’s clinical teams. The Associate Medical Director, Psychiatry works collaboratively with other clinical leaders to execute new procedures, protocols, and best practices, as well as facilitate cross-discipline team approach to medical care.
HOW YOU’LL SUCCEED ____________________________________________________________________
- Effectively manage and oversee the daily objectives of the Associate Medical Directors, Psychiatry.
- Be actively engaged when overseeing your team member’s individual performance which should include ongoing coaching, development, and meeting objectives through the annual review process.
- Lead by example by provide ongoing communication, teaching, and training to team members.
- Actively lead team meetings and process improvement initiatives to continuously improve work productivity, quality and efficiency of the team.
- Develop Signature Health’s psychiatric strategy to maximally contribute to high quality, cost-effective, team-based patient care through company-wide collaboration and development of improved and innovative approaches to psychiatric care.
- In coordination with all team members, implement new programs to improve clinical care and enhanced health outcomes, including participation in achievement of Patient Centered Medical Home recognition.
- Oversee the Peer Review process for psychiatric providers, including making recommendations for credentialing and privileging actions.
- Assist Clinical Leadership Team with implementation of the organization’s Quality Improvement Plan.
- Monitor and evaluate psychiatric care practices, processes, and programs for quality and effectiveness and develops and implements procedures and plans for improvement.
- Deliver presentations and training or represents the organization to staff, management, clients, or the general public as requested and/or indicated.
- Monitor the clinical performance of the EHR as it relates to psychiatric provider activities, sharing observations and suggestions for improvement as appropriate.
- Participate in preparation for compliance reviews, including but not limited to: HRSA Operational Site Visits, NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home, Federal Tort Claims Act, and CARF.
- Participate in review, analysis, and evaluation of financial performance of psychiatric provider staff, and works with senior management to allocate require resources to ensure clinical department success.
- In collaboration with operational leadership, effectively manages psychiatric staffing levels at all sites.
- Serve as collaborating provider for nurse practitioners and supervise physician assistants as requested.
Clinical:
- Provide direct patient care for patients as determined by business needs.
- Obtain and record a medical history for each patient as medically appropriate.
- Analyze reports and/or findings of tests and personal examinations in order to assess the medical condition of the patient.
- Refer the patient to other agency provided services when available and indicated.
- Prescribe medication and treatment for the patient as medically appropriate.
- Perform clinical procedures and therapeutic techniques that are consistent with Physician’s prior practice patterns and training.
- Maintain appropriate records relating to all professional services rendered in accordance with the standards of ODMH, CARF and/or other accrediting or regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and attend to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary or appropriate to the performance of the professional services.
- Report major unusual incidents and other information required to appropriate governmental authorities and as required by Signature Health.
- Participate in Signature Health quality assurance and peer review activities.
- Review and respond to agency email on a weekly basis, and is available on a reasonable basis for phone consultation regarding infectious disease management.
- Assist with oversight of student psychiatric rotations – Medical/Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Students and Residents.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
- Maintain all aspects of HIPAA, promoting patient confidentiality and right to privacy.
- May be required to perform telehealth services as determined by Signature Health.
- Adherence and completion of compliance training provided by Signature Health.
- Responsible for and completes all productivity/documentation requirements.
- Participate in all assigned staff meetings and staff development programs.
- Demonstrate appropriate attendance and punctuality in adherence with Signature Health policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE ______________________________________________________________
- Valid unencumbered DO or MD Physician License in the state of Ohio required.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology required.
- Full prescriptive authority in Ohio with a DEA license required.
- Active DATA 2000 Waiver to prescribe approved medications for the treatment of opioid use disorder, with willingness to apply to increase to maximum patient limits when eligible
- 5-7+ years’ of experience in Psychiatry required.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience in a Community Health Center preferred.

- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office/clinical work environment.
- While hours of operation are generally standard, flexibility to work evenings and extended hours may be required.
- Requires periods of sitting, standing, telephone, and computer work.
- Hearing: adequate to hear clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Speaking: adequate to speak to clients or patients in person, over the telephone or through telehealth technology.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- Physical effort required: occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 15 pounds, unassisted.
- Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens while performing job duties.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular workday.
- Sufficient dexterity to operate a PC and other office equipment.
