Assistant Director of Transportation
General Responsibilities: This is a supervisory position involving responsibility for assisting in the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the transportation facilities in a school district. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation allowing considerable leeway for the exercise of independent judgement. Supervision is exercised over the work of subordinate transportation personnel. Assists the Director of Transportation in the development of bus routes and preparation of time schedules for buses for public and non-public students in the school district; Assists in the management of the district transportation systems; May act as liaison between school administrators and parents concerning transportation problems and issues; Assists in directing service, maintenance and repairs of school district vehicles; Assists in maintaining time records on transportation staff for payroll purposes; Supervises the requisition, purchase, receipt and inventory of vehicle parts and department supplies; Coordinates and supervises departmental accounting of maintenance files and parts inventory; May assist in the evaluation and follow-up of disciplinary procedures of all transportation staff; Assists in processing and resolving employee grievances as assigned; Submits a variety of records and reports to the Department of Motor Vehicles and New York State Education Department as required by policy or law. Exceptional communication skills required. Good knowledge of standard transportation methods and operation of buses; good knowledge of modern budget methods and techniques; good knowledge of the principles and modern practices of accounting; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along with others; ability to deal effectively with the public; Does related work as required.
NOTE: The position involves the operation of school buses, candidates must satisfy the requirements for School Bus Driver as set forth in the Rules and Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education Law, and Vehicle and Traffic Law. Candidates are required to obtain SED School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI), and DMV 19-A Certification.

Job Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered two-year college with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Transportation Planning, or a related field, and 3 years of progressively responsible general business experience preferably including transportation management; Or
- Graduation from high school or GED and 5 years of progressively responsible general business experience preferably including transportation management.
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (A) or (B).
