Saint Francis University invites applications for a 12-month full time position as Director of University Bands/Assistant Professor in the Center for Fine Arts starting July 2022. The Director/Assistant Professor is directly responsible to the Director of the Center of Fine Arts to organize and direct all aspects of a band program that supports an NCAA Division I athletics program. The band program currently includes marching and pep bands. In addition, the opportunity exists to build new music programs, which may include jazz ensembles, rock ensembles, concert band, or other areas in the candidate's interest.
The candidate's responsibilities include leading all aspects of the Division I Athletics Band Program at Saint Francis University, including the instruction of the Red Flash Marching Band, Basketball Pep Band, and attending appearances at other university and community events. The successful candidate will interface regularly with the Athletics Department; however, the position is fully contained within the academic structure of The Center for Fine Arts. The successful candidate must possess extraordinary leadership skills, demonstrate strength in recruiting and retaining a diverse student population, and be comfortable developing and managing a support staff. The successful candidate will develop and maintain collaborative relationships with area high school bands, SFU athletics band alumni, and other community partners. Opportunity exists for teaching one or more music courses.
Requirements:
Master's degree required. Intercollegiate band experience preferred. Band directing experience required. Preference is given to candidates with experience teaching instrumental music, designing/creating a field show and proven ability in developing, leading, and sustaining a vibrant and diverse band program. Excellent administrative skills, a commitment to academic excellence, successful experience in recruiting new students and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and colleagues are required.
