The position:
We are seeking a Part-Time Oncology Nurse for our busy Hematology/Oncology practice. The nurse will provide and coordinate infusion activities to assure compassionate patient care. Provides direct patient care in compliance with professional practice standards. The Infusion Nurse will also promote a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families and all members of the care delivery team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Must demonstrate sound knowledge of the nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources.
- Demonstrates familiarity with state law on nursing care and nurse practice guidelines
- Utilizes nursing judgment in the decision-making process when responding to patient calls and questions.
- Demonstrates critical thinking using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Performs assessment/data collection in an on-going and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status.
- Demonstrates a sound knowledge of the ONS and OSHA guidelines.
- Chemotherapy administration and IV therapy techniques reflect a sound knowledge base of the principles of practice
- Demonstrates knowledge of medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
- Maintains and demonstrates knowledge of telephone-based clinical assessment techniques.
Experience:
- Proficiency in communication technologies (email, cell phone, etc.)
- Highly organized, ability to multi-task and ability to keep accurate notes and records
- Experience with EMRs, IT systems, and reports preferred
Education:
- Associate’s Degree in nursing (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) with at least one (1) year of oncology experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current BCLS Must obtain OCN certification within one year of hire.
