Responsibilities:
1. The President serves as the Itancan (Leader) for the College.
2. The primary responsibility of the President is to provide leadership in fulfilling the mission and purposes of the College under the direction of the Board of Trustees.
3. To provide the Board of Trustees with the information and specific recommendations needed to formulate policy and major institutional decisions.
4. Responsible for implementing the policies of the College.
5. To serve as the Authorized agent for all grants and contracts.
6. To act as primary spokesman for the College.
7. To ensure implementation of short and long range planning.
8. To develop an institutional budget and to ensure sound fiscal operations.
9. To seek funding for the institution from the federal, state, and private sector.
10. The President shall have the ultimate administrative authority after all other supervisory remedies have been exhausted.
11. The President may delegate specific duties and work assignments to staff as necessary for the over-all operation of the College.
12. All other duties as assigned by the Board of Trustees.
Qualifications and Experience:
The Board of Trustees is seeking an individual who can demonstrate most, if not all, of the following:
1. A solid grounding in and commitment to the Tribal College Movement, and a commitment to carrying out the mission and purposes of Oglala Lakota College.
2. Capable of leading a tribally chartered, reservation-based, decentralized College.
3. The ability to promote the College, to write and speak well, and to create and/or seize opportunities for strengthening the College’s capacity to contribute.
4. Demonstrated success in shared governance and participative management.
5. Ph.D. degree preferred, Master’s degree required.
6. Five years of Administrative experience at the collegiate level required.
7. Five years of experience with the higher accreditation process preferred, 2 years of such experience required.
8. Demonstrated ability to communicate openly ad effectively at all levels.
9. Demonstrated capacity to develop and implement long range planning, to function within timelines, and to empower staff and students to achieve expected outcomes.
10. Experience with federal grants and contracts processes and demonstrated success in fiscal management.
11. Commitment to strengthening Lakota/Native American sovereignty.
12. Lakota speaker preferred.
13. Knowledge of Lakota history, culture, philosophy, and language.
