The Oberlin College Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) invites applications for the position of OUR Program Coordinator. This is a non-continuing, full-time, 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff position supported by Oberlin College and Oberlin’s Pioneer Endowment. The position is for a three year term, with possibility for renewal, and will report to the Director and Associate Director of the OUR.
This position – funded through Oberlin’s Pioneer Academics – will advance Oberlin’s efforts to provide quality undergraduate research experiences and to increase the numbers of undergraduates from underrepresented backgrounds pursuing research, PhDs post-Oberlin, and other advanced degrees. The Program Coordinator will assist the director and associate director of the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) with the MMUF, OCRF, and STRONG programs and develop targeted student programming to encourage broader student engagement in research with such campus constituents as CLEAR, CELA, Career Development Center, and the Multicultural Resource Center. The Research Fellow will have a 40-hour per week 12-month appointment and will report to the director of OUR.
The Research Fellow will:
● Provide organizational and programmatic support for campus-wide programming for undergraduate research such as the Junior Practicum, SOAR, Oberlin College Undergraduate Research Symposium, and Oberlin College Undergraduate Research Journal
● Provide organizational and programmatic support for research cohort programs including MMUF, OCRF, and STRONG by organizing events and programming, communicating with fellows and mentors, and providing accountability for fellows
● Serve as a resource for students interested in pursuing research, preparing for research conferences and presentations, and translating their research experience to post-graduation careers and fellowships
● Provide organizational and programmatic support for Oberlin’s underrepresented research students to attend annual undergraduate research conferences such as the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students and the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship regional conference
● Be responsible for data collection and analysis for the assessment of undergraduate research at Oberlin
● Provide organizational and programmatic support for initiatives that increase the visibility of undergraduate research at Oberlin College
● Supervise the OUR office assistants and peer-mentors
Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of undergraduate research programming. The incumbent must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and experience working with underrepresented college students. The incumbent must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, be proactive, and be capable of working independently and as part of a team. The incumbent must be extremely responsible, punctual, and detail-oriented and must have strong quantitative, research, writing, and oral presentation skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite is required.
