TV Program Manager
Northern California Public Media (NorCal) serves the San Francisco region through two public television stations, KRCB and KPJK, and one public radio station, KRCB FM. As one of the few community-owned and operated media entities serving the region, NorCal offers PBS, NPR and Independent Public Broadcasting programming.
Overview:
NorCal seeks an experienced TV Program Manager to join the programming department. Reporting to the President & CEO, the TV Program Manager is in charge of content evaluation, presentation, and programming quality for our television channels on KRCB and KPKJ. The TV Program Manager will direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in the preparation of television station program schedules and broadcast of local programs, both station-produced and independently produced.
Essential Job Duties:
- Create program schedules that reflect the needs and interests of viewers in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Manage 8 channels between KRCB and KPJK, known as Northern California Public Media
- Select program offerings from PBS, APT, NETA and other program distributors and independent producers
- Maintain program inventory and manage program rights
- Working knowledge of broadcast traffic and operations
- Manage broadcast traffic and operations staff providing oversight, training, timely feedback, and guidance
- Work with digital staff to coordinate the presentation of video and program promotion on the NorCal website and other digital platforms as needed
- Develop promotional strategy for on-air content and digital platforms
- Develop relationships with regional independent producers to bring their programs to broadcast
- Maintain contracts and budgets for acquisitions
- Maintain broadcast records in accordance with FCC rules and regulations
- Understanding of PBS programming requirements and standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient at using ProTrack TV scheduling software and file database management
- Ability to use website content management systems and direct the presentation of media on the web as well as manage social media platform activity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to excellence and high standards
- Strong organizational skills: able to manage priorities, multiple projects and workflow and meet daily deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Knowledge of the creative, business, and technical considerations of the TV programming pipeline, including server file management and tech specs for broadcast files
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in media, journalism, or other related fields
- Must have five years' experience working in public media, with an emphasis in the areas of programming, traffic, and operations
- Five years' experience using website content management systems and directing the presentation of media on the web, and managing a social media platform
- Two years of supervising and managing employees
- Valid driver's license
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus
This is an on-site role that requires the employee to work at our Rohnert Park, California office. What we offer:
This is a full-time, exempt position, with benefits: medical, dental, vision, 403B, and pro-rated paid vacation and holidays. Salary starts at $65,000 and commensurate with experience.
