Summary:
Perform proficiently a variety of chemical, microscopic test and procedures under the direct supervision of a Medical Technologist. Perform venipunctures and accession specimens. Follow established policies, procedures and requirements of accrediting and regulating agencies.
Other information:
Associate degree in Medical Technology, High School diploma or equivalent with five(5) years of experience. Individual in this position must have been qualified under the Final March 14, 1990 rules under CLIA'88. Certified MLT, Associate degree in Medical Technology or High School graduate with at least five (5) years experience. Responsibilities:
The incumbent in this position may be assigned to a specific work area/station, may rotate in the Hematology/Coagulation, Serology, Chemistry, Parasitology, and Urinalysis sections, may perform limited procedures in the Bacteriology Section and NO Blood Bank. This position may rotate all shifts, including weekend and holiday. Duties include but are not limited to:Receive assignments from Laboratory Director, Clinical Coordinator, Medical Technologist or Pathologist.Plan, organize, and prioritize work to accomplish maximum quantity and quality of work assignments.Follow principles of asepsis and antisepsis in performing tasks.Follow OSHA recommended guidelines for a safe work environment.Perform venipunctures.Assist Accessionist with centrifuging and processing specimens.Assist Accessionist with verifying orders and specimen requirements.Perform preventive maintenance, quality control, and record and plot results.Identify all specimens before testing, making sure patient name, labels and requisitions are in agreement.Perform testing as required following instructions in the procedure manual.Record and report test resultsIdentify, verify, and report all "critical values".Inoculate and incubate cultures.Prepare and stain slides for bacteria identification.Prepare and stain slides for Acid Fast Smears.Microscopic evaluation of direct wet mount preparation.Perform macroscopic and microscopic agglutination test.Refer all difficult bacteria analysis and abnormal findings to the Section Supervisor or Pathologist.Perform record and report analysis on blood, body fluids and exudates.Add reagents to specimens as required.Perform Chemistry/Automated Chemistry procedures.Note appearance, change of color, or precipitate that may cause interference with chemistry test results.Make dilutions and calculate results.Report any problems with chemical analysis, equipment or quality control to the Section Supervisor, or Charge Tech.Perform, record and report Complete Blood Counts.Review and/or perform manual white blood cells differentials without identification of atypical results.Perform, record and report sedimentation rates.Perform, record and report reticulocyte counts.Perform, record and report coagulation studies including: PT, PTT, Fibrinogen, FDP, bleeding times.Perform manual hematology or coagulation procedures with limited steps and with limited samples or reagent preparation.Assist Pathologist with bone marrows; make slides for pathologist review.Report any unusual findings or problems with hematology or coagulation to Section Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator, Laboratory Director or Pathologist.Perform, record and report routine serological tests on blood and body fluids including: Mono-test, RA Latex, Cold agglutination, Group B Strep Latex, Pregnancy test, Directigen Combo kit, RPR and HIV screen.Report any difficult Serology problems with Section Supervisor, Laboratory Director, Supervisor or Pathologist.Perform, record and report routine urinalysis including microscopic examination.Prepare, examine and interpret routine stools, for ova, cysts, and parasites.Report any difficult Urinalysis or Parasitology problems to the Section Supervisor, Clinical Coordinator, Laboratory Director or Pathologist.Report any unusual findings or problems with the Laboratory Information System to the LIS Information Specialist, Clinical Coordinator, Laboratory Director or Pathologist.Maintain all required records, reports and statistical logs and files.Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and professional affiliations.Perform any duties not listed as directed by my Supervisors, Laboratory Director, Clinical Coordinator, or Pathologist.Take call for emergencies.Attend mandatory in-services and required laboratory meetings.Follows North Oaks Health System’s Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.Must be tested for difficulty with color discrimination.
