LAB CLINICAL PRACTICE FACILITATOR - LAB

Summary:
Manages the orientation, training, and competency of students and new employees.
Drives overall excellence in quality, performance, safety, and compliance of the Laboratory employees, processes and activities by collaborating with and utilizing the support of Laboratory and organizational leaders to develop and implement improvement activities.
Design and implement processes to improve performance and/or to meet regulatory requirements in collaboration with the applicable Laboratory leaders.
Other information:
A. Previous Experience Required:
·Minimum of 3 years pertinent full time experience, preferably as a generalist.
·Prefer 1 year experience in quality management including meeting regulatory/accreditation requirements, performance improvement, quality assurance, performance improvement and quality assessment activities.
B. Specialized or Technical Education Required:
·Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
·MT(ASCP) or equivalent
·Current Louisiana license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
·Knowledge of CAP/CLIA regulations.
·Possess strong organizational, presentation, written and verbal communications skills
·Must be flexible and have the ability to work on many different assignments simultaneously.
·Able to function independently and as a member of a team; motivate people to achieve excellence; work with multiple leadership and staffing levels to achieve quality management goals.
·Demonstrates general knowledge of technical procedures
·Able to think tactically and strategically.
·Able to train personnel on technical procedures, quality standards, and practices.
·Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with experience with project management software and maintenance and development of electronic databases preferred.
·Must be well organized and work well with a diverse group of people.

Responsibilities:
- Perform technical duties as described in Staff Clinical Laboratory Scientist I/II
2.Coordinates all required Laboratory staff licenses, certifications and competency. As applicable, obtains approval of assigned activities for appropriate CEU credits. Works with Laboratory staff and leaders to ensure completion and documentation of assigned competencies.
3.Manages new hire orientation and training program for the Laboratory.
4.Coordinates student education and affiliations as the Laboratory’s liaison to applicable educational programs.
- Monitors Federal and State regulatory agency requirements as well as accreditation standards to ensure complete and successful compliance of all testing and related activities performed in the Laboratory. Ensures Laboratory continuous readiness for regulating/accrediting agency inspections and surveys. Reviews, maintains, and writes policies, procedures, and processes for Laboratory activities listed in the CAP All-Common Checklist to provide standardized compliance guidance.
- Develops, implements and monitors a Laboratory performance improvement program in order to:
- Ensure a consistently high level of quality and safety.
- Detect and prevent errors in Laboratory practice.
- Standardize processes to minimize or eliminate errors.
- Improve efficiency of processes without sacrificing quality or safety.
- Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, precedents, and accreditation requirements
- Gathers relevant Laboratory quality data to produce statistical reports in order to review them to identify technical and operational opportunities for improvement. Develops improvement action plans in coordination with Laboratory leaders. Identifies and informs Director or designee of resources needed. Acts as a liaison between Laboratory staff and department management team, hospital administration and medical staff as needed to promote changes needed. Distributes pertinent information and educates staff to improvement activity requirements. Prepare documents and reports as needed for quality oversight committees (e.g. Blood and Procedures, Laboratory Quality, Safety Council, and others that apply).
- Supports organization and Laboratory quality plan and/or other related initiatives as appropriate. This may include, but is not limited to, defining, maintaining QA/QC objectives, targets, and processes and reviewing new targets, protocols, processes, equipment, supplies, and technologies for quality standards compliance and benefit.
9.Monitors non-conforming practices to ensure they are identified and documented and oversees development and implementation of corrective and/or preventative actions to prevent future non-conformances.
10.Collaborates with appropriate hospital employees and medical staff to identify quality needs or deficiencies and facilitate the creation of policies, procedures, or processes to address them.
- Acts as a resource to Laboratory leadership providing counsel and recommendations in the performance and interpretation of Laboratory testing related to performance management and quality assurance/improvement (QA/QI) initiatives.
12.Keeps employees informed of quality management system metrics. Solicits their input for solutions then coordinates with Laboratory leaders to develop plans and implement appropriate solutions.
- Maintains the Laboratory document control and versioning process by ensuring standardized formatting, timely review and edits, and up-to-date versions.
- Assists the Internal Safety Officer to ensure a safe workplace. This includes, but is not limited to, performing regular safety maintenance activities (e.g. safety shower function, eyewash station cleaning and function, etc.) and completing safety walkthrough audits
- Projects a professional image through excellent interpersonal skills and courteous communication with colleagues, other (medical) personnel, patients, and family.
- Maintains appropriate working knowledge of hospital/department software and other digital systems required for the assigned tasks.
- Promotes the quality and efficiency of his/her own performance by maintaining professional growth and development through literature review, participation in job-relevant seminars and workshops, attendance at professional conferences, and affiliations with national and state professional organizations.
- Attends and participates in meetings (administrative, departmental, in-service, etc.) as necessary. Represents the department at conferences and working committees as directed. Meet with non-Laboratory hospital staff as needed.
19.Assists in all aspects of emergency response. May be required to work other shifts, weekends and holidays as assigned.
