Government Relations Director
The Director, Government Relations will focus on public policy and related electro industry issues primarily at the federal level, but some state advocacy is also anticipated. The position involves working closely with association Member executives, including staffing member Committees; evaluating implications of legislative/regulatory initiatives; developing written comments and position/policy papers; and advocating policy positions that promote industry objectives through direct engagement with government officials and allied organizations. Activities include interacting with legislative/regulatory staff and elected officials, preparing position papers and comments, covering hearings/markups, managing member groups, and developing and implementing strategies that achieve Member objectives.
The position reports to the Vice President, Government Relations. The position is located in Arlington (Rosslyn), Virginia, and includes some domestic travel (up to 25%).
Requirements:
- Five to seven years' experience on Capitol Hill, Regulatory Agency, or trade association
- Undergraduate degree is required - advanced degree a plus
- Demonstrated success in achieving outcomes in legislative and regulatory processes
- General knowledge of electric sector and manufacturing challenges a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to persuasively advocate in private and public settings
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other legislative/issues tracking software
- Knowledge of Capitol Hill ethics requirements and programs
