Marketing Director
The National Urban League (NUL) seeks a Director, Marketing in the Marketing & Communications department. Reports to the Vice President of Integrated the Director works very closely with other internal and external department leads. As a key member of our growing team, the Director, Marketing will help shape the strategy and implementation of various marketing initiatives for the organization and its affiliates. This includes the National Urban League's brand management and continuity, media placement, live and virtual event promotions, and development of internal and external department and program materials. The ideal candidate will have experience with non-profits, cross-departmental collaboration, and strong oral and written communication skills.
Essential Functions:
- Work with various team leads throughout program and initiative lifecycles, leading the design, execution, and management of all mission-based marketing activities, and in coordination with the core marketing and communication team.
- Lead cross-department marketing projects and effectively coordinates workflows to meet internal needs.
- Help drive engagement with the National Urban League and its 92 Urban League affiliates.
- Partner and work alongside of the Programs and Partnership & Advancement Departments as they development plans for new and existing programs and events.
- Ensure alignment with and adherence to National Urban League brand guidelines and communication policies.
- Conceptualize and design multi-channel marketing, digital and print materials.
- Develop proposals and recaps for initiatives, events and quarterly board meetings, as needed.
- Help establish key metrics that will measure and monitor marketing effectiveness and offer recommendations for continuous improvement and evolution.
- Provide insights to marketing and senior leadership to amplify mission activities.
- Identify opportunities for efficiencies in work process and innovative approaches to completing scopes of work
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, or another related field required. Master's degree a plus.
Experience:
- 7+ years of marketing and/or public relations experience.
- 3+ years of event management experience.
- 3+ years of digital marketing experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong project management and organizational skills, including extreme attention to detail and deadlines.
- Strong marketing, management, and relationship-building skills and a good working knowledge of traditional and digital marketing.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment and independently organize work resources with the capability to work on multiple projects and/or assignments simultaneously.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with an exceptional capability in developing effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to write and edit copy for a broad array of promotional materials.
- Proficient in working in a project management system (Basecamp, Asana, etc.)
- Flexibility, creative thinking, and the ability to address marketing objectives with a limited budget while leveraging cost-effective means to achieve ambitious promotional goals.
- Exceptional PowerPoint skills with the ability to transform broad messages into a concise set of visually appealing slides.
- Strong ability to work well with others with poise, tact, and diplomacy.
- Ability to work cross-departmentally and collaboratively.
- Must possess a high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
- Must be energetic and have good leadership skills.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of time.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
