Vice President
Mystic Seaport Museum seeks a seasoned Vice President of Business Development and Marketing with a proven track record of strong leadership, team development, and leveraging innovation to drive profitable growth as well as expand the Museum's audiences and increase revenue.
This newly created position, will develop their own team and report directly to the Senior Vice President of Curatorial Affairs. The position requires a highly experienced leader who can develop and coordinate Mystic Seaport Museum's strategy to support the organization. The Vice President provides oversight to the Museum's Marketing, Communications, Digital Content, Business Development and Sales teams in support of Mystic Seaport Museum's combined revenue goals. The Vice President also plays a key role in developing and implementing strategic growth initiatives; identifies, explores and executes on opportunities consistent with such initiatives, collaborating closely with all departments within the Museum.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and organize marketing functions and operations working cross-departmentally to ensure marketing is aligned to meet the organization's overall strategic goals and objectives.
- Shape the strategic expansion and seek new opportunities for growth and revenue diversification particularly in the area of IP and brand partnerships.
- Analyze industry trends, competitive landscape, growth opportunities and internal performance.
- Ensure brand, voice, and tone are consistent throughout all marketing and communications strategies and tactics.
- Define, enhance and increase value and awareness of brand and drive intent to visit; drive strong visitor awareness prior to arrival.
- Provide strong leadership to marketing team as well as other stakeholders to accomplish objectives and superior execution of marketing strategic and tactical plans.
- Effectively assess complex information to provide the best direction to the business in a highly visible, high-exposure role. Monitor metrics and feedback, course-correct and optimize as necessary to ensure proper utilization of resources.
- Participate in destination efforts where appropriate. on local and regional boards and committees.
- Drive investment for marketing resources for return on advertising spend and best use partners.
- Conduct detailed review of analytical dashboards for Museum performance and digital marketing.
- Leverage key visit drivers and develop plans to remove barriers to visitation.
- Work with departments to develop museum revenue, both prior to and during visits.
- Provide oversight and guidance for internal creative services and graphics department as well as external advertising agencies.
- Lead development of high-level presentations addressing marketing and museum topics, financial performance, market updates, etc.
- Create and manage a significant budget covering all areas of marketing. Align budget resources with prioritized marketing strategies and tactics.
- Build successful relationships especially with staff, trustees, volunteers, donors, media, legislators, and community partners.
- Drive a positive and inclusive culture.
- Provide clear direction, resources, training, development, coaching and career path discussions for your team.
Requirements:
- Must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required.
- Minimum 10 years of combined experience in marketing and business development including at least 5 years leading a marketing team.
- A clear and up-to-date understanding of museum/entertainment industry trends both nationally and internationally an advantage. A demonstrated track record of managing and optimizing budgets to achieve KPIs, marketing performance and growth, and creating brand recognition.
- Possess broad, seasoned knowledge and expertise in strategic planning, marketing, advertising, communications and public relations, partner sales and relations, finance (from a budgetary and planning perspective); preference given for thorough understanding of destination marketing and tourism.
- Demonstrate and leverage strong grasp and application of analytical data and use innovative tools such as digital optimization.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA is desirable.
- Successful track record of innovation and business development.
- Experience in all aspects of intellectual property including trademarks, copyrights and licensing.
- A combination of previous leadership and execution in high-growth companies and non-profit organizations a plus.
- Ability to consistently manage numerous high-priority projects and delegate appropriately.
- Capable of executive-level oversight of multiple areas to include: advertising, promotions, media and public relations, digital marketing, business development, data and analytics.
- Ability to simplify complex business challenges to drive alignment of impacted stakeholders.
- Ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically, racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.
- Advanced marketing technology knowledge, including integrated digital marketing strategies.
- Strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the workplace.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to include polished oral and visual presentations.
- Must have strong creative campaign development skills that align with brand stewardship.
- Experience in developing and managing complex budgets.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays, outdoors in all types of weather.
