THE POSITION:

We are seeking a dynamic Director of Human Resources for a full-time position with remote flexibility. You will have a high impact role, driving both recruiting and HR initiatives, and reporting directly to the CHRO. This position is both strategic and hands-on with an emphasis on recruiting, onboarding, employee relations and performance management.

In this role, you will manage the Payroll and Benefits Specialist and Recruiter.

Starting salary for this position is $120,000+ annually commensurate with experience.

THE LOCATION

Our office is located in Washington, DC. As the safety and wellbeing of our team is of the utmost importance, all Mothership staff members are working remotely. However, all candidates hired after October 1, 2021 must be local to the DC, MD, or Northern VA area or open to relocating. In 2022, employees can choose to work remotely or in our DC Office.

OTHER KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a thought partner to leadership team and management
  • Manage the talent acquisition process, creating and optimizing the recruiting funnel
  • Lead onboarding, off-boarding, and performance management efforts
  • Provide strategic insight to management
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from employees referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the CHRO
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute Human Resource programs including, but not limited to: compensation, benefits and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale
  • Lead the development and execution of employee engagement and retention strategies, plans, and initiatives including the design and implementation of a training, mentoring and professional development and succession plans, ensuring that these strategies and processes are centered on DEI
  • Oversee the administration of the HRIS and ATS

  • Coordinate bi-annual merit and year end bonus process

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding payroll, benefits and other HR information

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance

  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in Human Resources, talent management, and employment law

  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations

  • Audit semi-monthly and a small bi-weekly payroll, and serve as a backup for payroll processing

YOU'RE A GOOD FIT IF YOU HAVE...

  • At least 10+ years of progressive experience in HR/Recruiting, in small to mid-sized companies, ideally in a startup or political industry
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Track record of building teams with diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Ability to develop a positive culture through continual interaction and communication
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Experience administering benefits - health, 401k, and Paid Time Off
  • Enthusiastic about change and change management. Able to effect change and drive results through leadership, collaboration, and influence
  • Ability to think strategically, but equally comfortable and able to dive into details and work independent as a sole contributor
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to effectively manage time and resources
  • You're comfortable with ambiguity and confident: can start projects with minimal direction and sound judgement for knowing when to involve leadership for buy-in
  • Outgoing, welcoming personality with strong problem solving, multitasking, and critical thinking skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks under pressure with deadlines
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Google platforms
  • Experience with Greenhouse, Zenefits, and LinkedIn Recruiter is preferred
  • Proficiency using Asana or similar project management tools
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills
  • Nice to have: CEBS, CPP, SHRM-CP and/or PHR certifications
