Director, Marketing & Communications
Summary:
As an integral member of the Michigan Small Business Development Center, the Director, SBDC Marketing & Communications creates and implements marketing & communications, strategies and materials.
The SBDC Marketing & Communications Director will build a creative, multi-channel marketing and communications plan that builds awareness and recognition, understanding of SBDC services, and measures the return of our marketing investments. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of marketing and communications that includes experiences with strategy development and tactical execution. This individual is responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of the organization's marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal.
This is a Grant Funded position.
Required Qualifications and Education:
- Demonstrated ability to write creatively and succinctly
- Proven track record of managing social media campaigns for an organization
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising Public Relations or a related field or comparable work experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Education:
- Master’s degree in related field.
- Strong administrative abilities
Responsibilities – Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns to the goals of the Statewide SBDC strategic plan. (Digital/Social/Print/Video/Email)
- Provides marketing guidance and education to meet the unique marketing needs of the 10 Regional SBDC offices, while maintaining alignment with the SBDC strategic plan. Assists with regional marketing plans and execution.
- Produces client stories. (print, video)
- Statewide SBDC brand and user experience owner.
- Manage SBDC brand guide and ensure that brand standards are met
- Manage media relationships throughout the state and distribute press releases on behalf of the SBDC.
- Direct the activities of the student marketing intern and contractors.
- Evaluate new and emerging marketing trends/tools/best practices for the SBDC network.
- Oversee SBDC Public Relations strategies including media and press releases.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of marketing collateral, including the annual report and support tools.
- Oversees web/mobile/social platforms and affiliated assets.
- Oversee website content and search engine optimization strategy and implementation.
- Manage and evaluate the need for print collateral. Oversee the process of designing and printing SBDC materials including identity pieces, brochures, posters, online advertising pieces and promotional materials. Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all organization publications.
- Oversee the creation and distribution of the SBDC annual report.
- Support the marketing of SBDC training and education events. (eg: Small Business, Big Threat)
- Support SBDC stakeholder events. (eg: Michigan Celebrates Small Business, Great Lakes Lenders Conference)
- Oversees the marketing budget.
- Accountable for the measurement of marketing performance and goals.
- Other marketing duties as assigned.

- Designs and prints SBDC marketing materials
- Assists Michigan SBDC Regional offices write press releases and maintain media relations
- Assists Michigan SBDC Regional offices with social media strategy
