Manager, Business Growth & Development
Manages day-to-day activities, coordination and improvement efforts with McClatchy’s existing strategic partnerships with syndicated content providers, off-platform content partners, e-commerce vendors/platforms, platform or service providers in niche business verticals that McClatchy is building. Leads identification and successful implementation of sponsored advertising efforts and first-party data-focused campaigns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate actions necessary to improve McClatchy’s position with strategic partners and various internal teams
- Work with McClatchy divisions to ensure successful and profitable execution of strategic partnerships
- Identify, recommend and manage the implementation of profit improvement opportunities with existing partners
- Identify new partners that could add value to McClatchy’s business and vision
- Assist in evaluating new strategic partnerships
- Work with McClatchy teams to identify new first-party data segments that would drive incremental revenue
- Coordinate content creation and monetization efforts with McClatchy’s eCommerce content providers
- Manage affiliate accounts and relationships with merchants and online shopping platforms
- Gather data and share performance reporting about strategic partnership efforts
- Work on other duties and projects, as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Deep knowledge and/or expertise in news media, monetization models and strategic partnerships
- Demonstrated accomplishments in managing and expanding business partnerships
- Innate ability to solve problems, accomplish tasks and validate claims from potential partners
- Excellent presentation, communication skills and sales presence to represent McClatchy’s interests with partners who may, on occasion, have conflicting interests
- Effective curiosity with an eye to bring new ideas to profitable solutions
- High analytics skills
- Ability to prioritize and to work under and meet short and long deadlines in a fast-paced, data-driven work environment
- An understanding of audience trends and digital media
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and team player skill
- Ability to work well, be professional and courteous with a variety of stakeholders, external and internal
- Must be able to work remotely while contributing to a team environment
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or the equivalent education
- Five years of experience in account management, sales or business development
- Five years of news media experience
- Demonstrated accomplishments through working with other key departments, especially with newsroom, advertising and technology
- Ability to work independently
