Job Overview
Malaria No More's Development team leads the strategy and implementation of MNM's global partnerships and fundraising efforts in support of our ambitious growth and impact goals. The Senior Manager, Donor Engagement will be a key member of this small, effective team - critical to the organization's success. This role will work across all teams and initiatives, supporting the Leadership Team in developing deeper, more meaningful engagement with its past, present, and prospective donors. The ideal candidate will be an ambitious fundraiser and bring an entrepreneurial spirit and high level of professionalism to Development's resource mobilization team. They are a passionate and creative professional with highly developed writing and presentation, client relationship building, opportunity identification and development, and project management skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Curate a portfolio of potential individual, corporate, and foundation donors, via prospect research, cross-functional portfolio management, and coordinated outreach through Malaria No More's leadership, board members, and other core contacts.
- Understand engagement opportunities, advance communication channels, work across MNM teams to identify specific appeals and funding opportunities, create targeted and tailored outreach materials, and prepare proposals.
- Facilitate the launch of a new MNM giving society to recognize major donors, create a community of like-minded individual and foundation champions for malaria elimination, and organize and execute meaningful events for appreciation and new donor cultivation.
- Design annual renewal strategy for current donors, develop creative new fundraising campaigns, execute direct mailing efforts, and identify social media and communications opportunities to reach new donor audiences.
- Work effectively with other MNM teams to ensure programmatic work is reflected appropriately in fundraising materials, and to support programmatic partnership development and resource mobilization.
- Oversee the maintenance and enhanced utilization of fundraising tools and internal knowledge management systems; oversee benchmarking and other development performance analytics and contribute to broad social media presence.
A Day in the Life
- Start the day with a meeting with a Tiger Team focused on a special initiative like planning for a high-impact event on Capitol Hill to educate congressional staff about the life-saving potential of investment in the US President's Malaria Initiative.
- Midmorning you may spend some time reviewing the prior day's donations, confirming that they have been properly recorded, and recommending a set of immediate actions as you are our front line for donor stewardship.
- In response to a large or otherwise significant donation, you schedule a quick conversation with MNM's CEO, to ensure proper acknowledgement of the gift and agree to next steps in cultivation.
- A midday huddle with colleagues from the Advocacy, Communications, and Strategic Initiatives teams, to ensure your awareness of MNM's strategic direction and recent events, to help identify opportunities to incorporate it in upcoming campaigns or individual donor conversations.
- After lunch you might arrange for a conversation over coffee with a senior MNM colleague and a prospective donor, to highlight our initiatives, build enthusiasm and strong relationships, and learn about that particular donor's interests and passions.
- In between meetings and networking, work progresses on preparation for upcoming events, donor research and strategic planning.
What are we looking for?
- Bachelor's degree with three to five years of experience in donor relations, stewardship, engagement, and/or major gift fundraising, preferably in a global health setting.
- A strategic thinker with an understanding of sustained relationship management and the stewardship of philanthropic gifts.
- Professionalism, discretion, creativity, and the ability to deal with confidential information are vital in this role.
- Passion for social impact, and enthusiasm for Malaria No More's mission to end one of the world's oldest and deadliest diseases within a generation.
- Demonstrated track record of strategic planning, collaboration, innovation, and creativity, and well versed in donor relations, fundraising principles, and stewardship best practices.
- Excellent writing skills and first-hand experience with developing donor correspondence, marketing and stewardship emails, concept notes, marketing materials, and proposals.
- Exceptional communication skills and demonstrated ability to engage with diverse audiences.
- Skills and experience in project and event management, both in-person and virtual.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage complex, multi-phase projects from inception to completion.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively colleagues.
- Extraordinary attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to prioritize and handle simultaneous assignments while adapting to changing deadlines, priorities, and workflows
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms
Highly qualified candidates will have the following:
- Knowledge and/or experience in global health
- Experience using The Raiser's Edge NXT in a non-profit setting
- Experience working in a lower- middle- income country setting
