Director of Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management
Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor HR, Purchasing, and Risk Management, the Director of Safety plans, implements, and oversees the University’s environmental, health, and safety programs.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing analysis and evaluation of current campus Risk Management policies to ensure alignment with ORM and LSU policies and requirements. Conduct announced and unannounced audits to monitor departmental compliance.
- Serve as university point of contact with Louisiana Office of Risk Management for all risk management issues including insurance.
- Manage campus risk management training. Develop and conduct training as needed.
- Serve as Safety Officer for campus lab operations including management of the campus hazardous material inventory, storage and disposal of hazardous waste, lab safety training, and lab equipment maintenance/operation.
- Serve as Chair of the University Safety Committee. Participate on other committees as appropriate.
- Ensure the campus Emergency Response Plan is current. Work with key internal and external players to conduct contingency drills, exercises and associated operations.
- Investigate all campus incidents and accidents to determine root cause and identify trends. Implement appropriate actions to prevent similar incidents. Coordinate Workman’s Compensation actions with HRM and ORM.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety, or related field
3 years of related experience required, preferably in a higher education environment
Working knowledge of federal and state safety/risk management requirements
