Facilities Technician
Title: Facilities Technician
Reports to: Director of Facilities
Full Time
Preferred Education, Certification and Experience:
Either an Associate’s degree or certification in one of the trade fields preferred
Experience in the facilities maintenance field preferred but not required
PURPOSE: To serve as a member of the Facilities team, collaborating on school facility needs and performing necessary tasks to keep the facilities in optimal condition conducive to the educational development of all students and the professional development of staff.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
● Monitors the work order system and performs necessary tasks to complete work requested or needed on
work orders to ensure timely and quality service delivery to staff
● Assists Facilities team in maintaining mechanical, electrical and controls systems
● Utilizes basic knowledge of HVAC maintenance, door hardware maintenance, as well as general Facilities
maintenance to perform duties
● Using manufacturers’ recommendations and job knowledge, establishes and carries out a preventative
maintenance program for the facilities, tools and equipment for which this position has responsibility
● Assists facilities department in maintaining a system of grounds and facilities supplies and assets inventory
and accounting
● Helps to purchase supplies and equipment within the LNC purchasing guidelines
● Assists in maintenance on all school owned vehicles
● Assists Facilities team in monitoring contracted janitorial services to ensure that the proper cleaning is being done regularly and standard is being maintained
● Performs grounds maintenance, parking lot and walkway maintenance, and campus beautification as a back up to our contracted services
● Assists Facilities department in supervising and working with the summer worker program
● Completes LNC bus driver training to acquire and maintain NC CDL with P&S endorsement
● Assists Facilities department in accomplishing other tasks as may be required and assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
● Basic knowledge of HVAC maintenance, door hardware maintenance, as well as general Facilities
maintenance
● Ability to read and understand architectural plans and specifications
● Working knowledge of building and mechanical systems
● Experience managing security and emergency management programs
● Functional knowledge of energy management systems
● Demonstrated ability and knowledge to follow a maintenance schedule in a complex facility
● Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
● Ability to respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
● Ability to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with
emergency situations
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
● Ability to comfortably work at heights of 30 ft.
● Ability to lift weight up to 50 lbs.
● Ability to run facilities maintenance equipment
● Ability to obtain a CDL license at school expense
