The Position: Chief Executive Officer
Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA) seeks an innovative and accessible leader to serve as Chief Executive Officer. The CEO will lead a talented team of professionals through continued growth and expansion meeting the evolving needs of the communities of Kodiak Island, Alaska; especially the Alaska Native Beneficiaries. The CEO will keep KANA on the leading edge of innovation; leverage its strong financial position to build on past successes; advance economic development projects for sustainable communities throughout the region; and develop strategic solutions to address community needs. The ideal candidate brings demonstrated experience in navigating intergovernmental affairs and Tribal health environments, an unwavering commitment to high-quality service delivery, and a respect for diverse life experiences ensuring all voices are valued and heard.
The salary range is between $375,000 and $450,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. KANA provides generous benefits and is IHS, NHSC & SHARP loan repayment site eligible.

Skills and Expertise
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with Tribal health environments and the navigation of intergovernmental affairs.
- Strong financial management skills, including demonstrated experience in developing and monitoring budgets, managing complex revenue streams, and efficiently and strategically aligning and maximizing resources.
- Demonstrated track record of effectively leading and scaling up a performance- and outcomes-based organization and utilizing entrepreneurial and adaptive approaches to achieve objectives.
- Experience working within the Alaska economy, preferably with or for an Alaska Native organization.
- A minimum of ten years progressive leadership experience, with at least five years in a senior leadership position. Nonprofit or healthcare-related leadership experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated organizational management experience, including coaching, managing, and developing high-performance teams, and setting and achieving strategic objectives.
- Experience serving as the primary spokesperson and representative for an organization.
- Experience advocating at the local, state, and national level.
- Success working with a Board of Directors; experience cultivating existing Board member relationships is preferred.
- Proven ability to nurture and sustain relationships with key community partners; working effectively in collaboration with staff, Board, Beneficiaries, community leaders, funding partners, and Tribal governments.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities in a small plane on a regular basis.
