Director of Corporate Relations
The Director of Corporate Relations is responsible for the creative development, design, implementation, and evaluation of corporate fundraising strategies and manages a portfolio of ~160 donors, $2M income budget, primarily from corporate, partners with gifts ranging from $1,500 to $100,000. This person will work with and report to the CEO and will oversee all aspects of corporate, foundation and other fundraising including fostering and developing relationships that result in increased financial support through a combination of grants, gifts, and sponsorships. This person will work effectively with the Keystone Board and the 100 member Scientific Advisory Board in executing fundraising strategies, including funding requests, personal introductions, and gathering strategic fundraising advice. Involves regular one-on-one interaction with “executive-level” corporate partners and prospects via telephone, email, video conferencing and face to face meetings.
Primary Responsibilities: • Generate corporate revenue including corporate gifts, grants, sponsorships, matching funds, and in-kind gifts from a portfolio of approximately 160 companies with an income target of ~$2M • Works to establish long-term partnerships, strengthen existing relationships and initiate new contacts within the BioPharma industry • Builds relationships with Corporate and Foundation funders by implementing effective and creative cultivation and stewardship strategies • Develop, implement, and execute year-round corporate partnership strategies to maintain and increase financial support • Researches, writes, and submits proposals and funding applications • Gather necessary information, including research on prospective new funding relationships, and prepare stewardship reports for corporations and foundations to ensure a diverse pipeline and continued support • Develops and implements effective customized sponsor recognition strategies • Accompany CEO and/or Chief Scientific Officer on donor visits and conferences • Track progress of fund-raising campaigns and solicitations to prospective new donors • Coach, train and mentor direct reports; Development Coordinator and Development Associate • Work with the Development Coordinator and Development Associate to track proposals, gifts and pledges and maintain databases and records. Assign duties as required. • Assist in the preparation of the annual report, occasional newsletters, and other Development-related documents • In general, maintain constructive and productive work relationships for the sake of a healthy and successful Development department function • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested
Experience: • Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills required • Demonstrated record of success in generating significant financial commitments from corporations and foundations • Experience in submitting successful corporate and/or foundation grant submissions using various platforms such as Salesforce • Fearless about approaching new companies for support and a strong background in prospect research that leads to donations • Entrepreneurial – willing to try new approaches and refine when needed • Flexible, comfortable, and credible working with C-suite and senior-level executives • Excellent task, time, and project management skills, ability to set goals and objectives and use appropriate analytical techniques and tools to update projections regularly • Ability to use discretion and independent judgment and/or action in evaluating situations and making decisions • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required, plus three to five years of prior work experience to include positions requiring significant amounts of written work, preferably with fundraising proposals and grant submissions. Should have strong communication, writing, and research skills and be proficient at using the Internet and other research sources. Ability to read and write about scientific and technological topics is a plus but not required. Must be able to work independently and with good judgment. Must remain alert to proposal and other fundraising and departmental deadlines and finalize proposals and accompanying materials in time to comfortably meet these deadlines. Ideal candidates will be flexible generalists with strong analytic and writing skills, and a commitment to relationship-based fundraising practices. Must be willing to travel for meetings with existing and potential corporate donors. Must be able to work in our Silverthorne, Colorado office at least 2 days per week. Compensation: Salary is $105,000 to $125,000 depending on experience.
