Radiation Therapy Staff Nurse / Medical Assistant
Iowa City Cancer Treatment Center is seeking a patient-centered nurse or medical assistant to join our dedicated radiation oncology team.
This position will be 70-100%, Monday-Friday, with the potential for variable hours between 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. ICCTC is a community-based cancer care center with one staff MD radiation oncologist.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides basic patient care duties such as recording vital signs, assisting patients with ambulation, and providing other support and assistance to patients as needed
- Obtains, updates, and accurately documents information in Epic and Mosaiq
- Accompanies provider during patient examinations and assists as directed
- Answers phone calls from patients/relatives and documents conversation in the EMR
- Reports patient concerns to appropriate team member and follows through as directed
- Communicates with other medical offices/services and makes referrals as needed
- Reports patient safety incidents, patient and family complaints, serious events, and environmental hazards immediately to the provider/clinic lead
- Inventories supplies, removes expired supplies from inventory, and communicates needs to clinic lead based on appropriate or established inventory levels
- Assists in maintaining clean and organized work environment, including cleaning and preparing exam rooms between patients
- Provides patient education, monitors for and initiates measures to manage acute toxicities of treatment, and communicates with the provider regarding patient symptoms
- Assists in scheduling and obtaining results for diagnostic imaging/labs and instructs patients in required preparation for diagnostic imaging/labs
- Assists in obtaining prior authorization for imaging studies
- Assists in obtaining necessary documentation for consults and follow-up patients
- Assist with disability, FMLA, and insurance paperwork, work release letters, etc.
- Participates in Quality Improvement program
- Assists in other duties as assigned by the provider/clinic lead
Qualifications:
1. RN/LPN preferred, requires a valid Registered Nurse license by the Iowa Board of Nursing; Medical Assistant requires a certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program
2. Current course completion card in Basic Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association required
3. General computer skills and experience with Electronic Medical System required
4. Previous healthcare support experience, 1 to 3 years (in past 3 years) in healthcare setting desired
5. Excellent organizational skills
6. Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills
