Production Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the preventative and daily maintenance of production machinery at Heinen’s Manufacturing plant in order to maximize production up time.
Responsibilities:
- Follows all company policies and procedures such as GMP’s, Food Safety, Occupational Safety (Lock Out/Tag Out, Confined Space, etc.).
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment, work tools, facility, etc., to ensure assets are in good/safe working order following company, city, state and federal regulations with regard to work practices.
- Perform equipment and building preventative maintenance following established schedule.
- Control downtime with routine preventative maintenance techniques and maintaining a strong line of communication with the Production team to assure product quality, timely availability, and freshness.
- Maintain equipment, part, and supply inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
- Performs daily pre-operational inspection and set-up tasks to ensure equipment is ready to run.
- Execute complex repairs to system components and associated equipment by utilizing original equipment manufacturers recommendations and specifications and/or other recognized and generally accepted equipment repair practices.
- Understands complex electrical schematics, PLC control functions (input/output scenario’s), and Electrical Distribution systems with the ability to troubleshoot root causes and determine proper repairs.
- Analyze data and trend values to determine the need for increased maintenance frequencies or improved procedures and safe work practices.
- Assist department management in the supervision and documentation of Contractor activity and performance related to the process equipment.
- Provide mechanical and technical guidance and expertise to production team and to continually improve the education, experience, and skill set within the department (teach/coach/mentor).
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Five or more years’ related experience in a food production repair/troubleshooting position.
- Proficient General PC skills and able to utilize all Microsoft Office Applications.
- Working knowledge of regulatory agencies and requirements (USDA, FDA, OSHA, etc.).
- Experience with the following preferred: PLC, Electrical Systems, HVAC, and Pneumatics.
- Ability to follow all necessary safety guidelines (personal, food, and sanitation).
- Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize (and re-prioritize) based on the changing needs of the business.
- Preferred ability to work with a wide range of equipment in a food manufacturing facility, including: Meat Slicers, Meat Grinders, Mixers, Food Conveyors, Multi-Vac, Labelers, Metal Detectors, Ovens, Packaging Equipment, and Boilers.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, equipment manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints; Welding experience a plus.
