Overview
Entry Level - Planer Dept., Swing Shift, Work schedule is Monday - Thursday, 5pm - 3:30am.
This position of Swing Shift Entry Level/Clean-Up keeps the Planer clean, safe, and operational. This is a full time entry level position with cross training during the week to learn some of the advanced equipment in the Planer and cover breaks. Wage is at $20.26 per hour plus a shift differential. Production bonuses are possible for every employee each month, based on the plant site's target goals.
Entry Level is just the first step towards a long list of exciting and diverse job opportunities available at Hampton. As you are trained on different jobs in each department to assist with breaks, you will gain the job experience to be able to apply internally when advanced positions with increased wages become available. Hampton also maintains a state-accredited Apprenticeship program, where employees can work toward, and if chosen, apply to attend classes while working and develop the skills needed to eventually receive Journeyman status in skilled trade positions such as millwright or electrician, with all the required classes reimbursed by the company.

Responsibilities
- Keep pace with Planer facility cleanup requirements.
- Follow Company lockout, safety, and work standards.
- Must be willing to attend any training necessary to upgrade performance.
- Operate any machinery in a safe manner so injury does not occur to operator or any employee in the area.
- Notify supervisor of any problem that arise during the shift.
- Assist maintenance personnel during breakdowns.
- Must be willing to train any employees as assigned by supervisor.
- Must be willing to work overtime as necessary.
- Pick up slabs, sticks, sawdust, and chips off lower mill floors, and perform weekly dust mitigation requirements.
- Maintain a safe environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures.
- Cooperation and patience while being trained or training other employees
- Train on production jobs to assist with coverage for breaks, absences, vacations
- Assist with general chainsaw maintenance
- Perform preventative maintenance and maintain appropriate checklist as need
Qualifications
- Good communication skills through writing, speech and hearing
- High School Diploma or GED preferred (18 years or older)
- Sawmill experience preferred but not required
- Must be willing to learn new skills
- Lifting is 20-30 pounds on a continuous basis
- Be a team player and self-starter
- Be self-motivated; goal-oriented
