The Palm Beach Post, an award-winning, forward-thinking, digitally-savvy media company that’s growing our audience, is looking for a dynamic reporter to cover one of our bigger beats in a fast-paced newsroom amid a competitive market.
People keep moving to Palm Beach County, located in beautiful South Florida, so how the county grows, and how we cover it, is always of high interest.
We seek stories with depth and context that impact the lives of people in Palm Beach County and Florida.
Who are we?
We’re one of the bigger papers in Florida, and the largest of Gannett’s 19 dailies in the state. The Gannett Florida Network oftentimes collaborates on projects, and promotes each other's content, so much of what you’ll write will be seen by a vast audience in this state of 20.3 million. The Palm Beach Post has multiple effective digital platforms that reach a wide audience, but we also are a legacy brand, having been around for more than 100 years.
We’re a media company that has always punched above its weight class amid a competitive landscape.
We have specific growth plans for the future, and clearly defined goals based on solid journalism.
What will you do?
You’ll join a three-person team that focuses on growth, real estate and the economy.
Growth is the main part of this beat, which includes housing/real estate, the economy, and a bit of politics.
For housing/real estate, we’re looking for someone who will report trends in pricing and housing availability but will tell stories of people from all socio-economic levels.
We want someone to look at economic/employment numbers and know how to dig into the data and find the story behind the story while providing perspective from real people.
Some of what you write will be affected by political decisions, hence the part of the job tied to politics. We also are in a state that tends to make national political news (don’t forget a former president lives just two miles from our main office), so you may be asked to help out in that area.
What we need from you
A relentless curiosity and a knack to identify potential stories that impact people.
An ability to digest complex subjects for our audience and to juggle long-form enterprise stories with occasional dailies from the beat.
Being adept at social media and bringing innovative ways to promote content and grow our audience is important.
We’re looking for three years’ work experience in journalism or equivalent experience required. Previous coverage of real estate and/or growth issues, and database reporting preferred.
Most of all, bring your curiosity, love of telling stories, and your motor.
