Delmarva Now, part of the USA TODAY Network, is seeking a news reporter focusing on Ocean City, Maryland. The state’s premier resort town is Maryland’s second largest municipality during the busy summer months, with 8 million visitors annually.
During the fast-paced summer months, breaking news from surf rescues to flooding that snarls beach traffic can quickly be turned into watchdog and enterprises stories. This beat is where tourists intersect with business — and aren’t always aligned with local residents’ interests.
While the resort town is priority, this reporter will also cover Worcester County at large, telling first-hand accounts of the impact or potential impact of local government actions. There will be time for the trends that have people talking from new restaurants to viral beach videos. Your breaking news and in-depth coverage will find a wide regional and national audience.
Visuals and interactive storytelling tools should help the audiences’ understanding of a topic.
Candidates must be self-starters, generating and producing high-quality work on a regular basis. Experience accessing public records to analyze and strengthen reporting will set you apart. You’ll have advanced analytics tools to shape your reporting based on what resonates with the audience.
Delmarva Now includes The Daily Times and nine weekly publications covering Delaware, Maryland and Virginia coastal and Chesapeake Bay communities.
Salisbury, Maryland, is located 45 minutes from Ocean City, Maryland, and Delaware beaches. The Delmarva Peninsula offers plenty of national and state parks to explore. Day-trippers can visit Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Philadelphia.
Please send a cover letter on how you would approach the job, a resume and links to your published work to Executive Editor Laura Benedict Sileo through the Gannett jobs site.
