USA TODAY Network New York is seeking an editor to head its award-winning State Team, which is a group of reporters across the state who cover breaking news, trends, health, the economy and state government.
This editor serves in a key role of organizing and developing news coverage for our New York news sites in conjunction with leading the New York State Team.
The position includes:
· Managing a team of reporters who cover all aspects of New York, whether it’s a developing news event, a major jobs announcement, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic or developments at the state Capitol in Albany.
· Edit a mix of in-depth enterprise and investigative articles as well as daily news coverage and coordinate art for stories.
· Work with editors across New York and the USA TODAY Network to coordinate coverage and build off of local trends and topics in their newsrooms.
· Continue to write articles at times, whether it be breaking news or long-term projects. This reporter works with the New York state editor, videographers, producers and others to plan and deliver content for readers on mobile devices.
KEY CONSIDERATIONS
· Have a clear vision and plan on how to build readership and subscribers across our New York markets and beyond.
· Strong organizational skills and planning to oversee a statewide team of reporters.
· A collaborative mindset to build relationships with editors and reporters across New York, the Atlantic Group and the USA TODAY Network.
· Ability to mentor reporters and have strong leadership skills, such as developing story budgets and long-term projects.
· A journalist committed to values of fairness, diversity, inclusion and professionalism.
REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
· At least five years experience as a journalist with relevant experience as a editor.
· Good time management and organizational skills.
