We deliver the trusted brands of Michigan’s largest audience, including the Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News. We produce 30 original events per year, such as Detroit Free Press Marathon, the Freep Film Festival, Top Workplaces, dining and cocktail events and more.
The Marketing Specialist works to position and promote brands and products of Michigan.com, Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News across all platforms and channels. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast paced, ever changing media environment, handles multiple projects at once, is organized and loves a challenge. You will get to work on fun events, learn all about how a newsroom works, and use your skills to grow audience and promote our brands. This work includes but is not limited to campaign and promotional development and execution for all brands and associated products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marketing Specialist will champion new and existing marketing initiatives. Work will include collaborating with other departments to achieve key goals and metrics.

Responsible for creating and executing an effective paid social media strategy for the Detroit Free Press to attract new audiences and engage current readers

Assist in planning and executing events. This includes working on strategies to promote the event, logistics, working with sponsors, working with the newsroom.

Support the marketing initiatives for the Detroit Free Press Marathon. This includes assisting with paid and organic social media, solicitation of runners and event coordination,

Develop and manage relationships with outside media outlets such as TV and radio to get our talent featured and grow audience on these platforms. This also includes writing press releases and working with outside media to promote our events.

Write and execute trade/sponsorship agreements including meeting with advertisers as needed.

Acts as a liaison with event sponsors to ensure fulfillment of all sponsorship benefits in accordance with their agreements.

Develop relationships with the newsrooms and columnists to help grow audience and promote engagement.

Collaborate with the Marketing Director to suggest strategies for audience growth based on knowledge accumulated with newsroom relationships.

Work closely within budgets and manage P&L’s.

Coordinates event-specific duties within defined timelines and established expense budgets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least 2- 3 years’ experience in marketing, public relations, or related field.
- Prefer experience and/or knowledge of media solutions, marketing campaign development, event marketing, consumer events and public relations.
- Key leadership competencies include ability to: demonstrate professional interpersonal skills with internal and external customers, maintain confidentiality of company information, prepare reports accurately and within time deadlines, ability to coordinate several tasks simultaneously within a fast-paced environment, excellent organizational skills, professional presentation and/or facilitation skills.
