Authentication and Exclusivity Spectrum Lead
About Gannett Product: We build the websites, apps, newsletters, and other products that power the digital offerings of USA TODAY and hundreds of local news brands across the country. We've been a distributed team since before it was cool, with a hybrid culture shaped by a combination of fully remote teammates and those working from local offices across the country and in our Northern Virginia headquarters. Our geographic diversity puts us closer to our audiences, helping us keep them at the center of our work. And because many of us live in communities served by Gannett's journalism, we take extra pride in helping it succeed -- knowing that a thriving local press is associated with less corruption and polarization and greater civic engagement.
What You’ll Do: We are looking for a seasoned product management leader who will spearhead the effort to grow and engage our mid-funnel and subscriber audiences across our broad portfolio of properties by simplifying the account-creation and authentication experience and implementing features that are exclusive to those audiences. This leader will use data to identify existing features that should be part of the “exclusivity spectrum” for registered users and/or subscribers and identify new features to build for these valued audiences. Growing our mid-funnel audience through registration and seamless authentication is a top priority for Gannett. Registered users are more engaged and more likely to subscribe, so improving registration flows and value propositions are foundational elements to achieving our aggressive digital subscription goals. Treating our subscribers “like gold” is a core tenet for the subscription product team and Gannett. Creating exclusive and frictionless experiences and feature sets for our subscribers will assist in both attracting new and retaining existing subscribers.
You’ll partner with leaders across the organization, including Marketing, Data Intelligence, Engineering, UX, and the Newsroom to build and execute upon an ambitious roadmap centered on building products that incent anonymous users to create an account, optimizing the account-creation and authentication experiences, and delivering a compelling value proposition for registration and subscription through exclusive feature sets.
The right candidate will be biased toward action, taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.
We are looking for a dynamic leader and product evangelist who will:
- Build and execute a product roadmap focused on converting users from anonymous to known in a centralized, coordinated way across Gannett’s property and product portfolio.
- Create an effortless account creation flow through continuous experimentation and iteration.
- Develop exclusive products and features for registered users and subscribers that incent users to create an account or log in and engage.
- Test and implement cutting-edge methods to improve authentication experiences to keep the experience frictionless, reliable, and secure.
- Analyze performance metrics, measure success and use this data to identify new product opportunities that will incent users to log in or create an account and promote new registrations across all platforms (desktop, mobile, apps).
- Work with the Product leadership team and other invested partners to define the broader vision and translate that into a cohesive product roadmap.
- Prioritize the product roadmap based on user feedback, optimization opportunities, and input from key partners.
- Partner with the engineering and UX teams to define user stories, acceptance criteria, groom backlogs, prioritize features and conduct user acceptance testing.
