Director of Operations, OTT & Digital Distribution
The USA TODAY NETWORK is seeking a Director of Operations who will primarily be responsible for managing product integrations across the Digital Distribution team’s portfolio of partners.
Over the last 5 years, Gannett has made significant inroads establishing digital distribution partnerships with key content portals (Yahoo, MSN, Smartnews, Apple, etc.), social (FB, YouTube, Twitter) and OTT platforms. We are one of the largest news and sports syndicators through our USA TODAY and sports enthusiast brands. And our local newspapers have informed communities across the U.S. for decades.
Since launching our USA Today News and USA Today SportOTT channels in 2018, Gannett has expanded to more than a dozen Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV (FAST) platforms including XUMO, The Roku Channel, Amazon News, Tubi, Samsung TV Plus and more. The expansion has provided substantial growth in audience and engagement reaching over 25 million monthly views and over 200% increase in average view duration across all platforms in the last year.
We are now looking for an experienced executive who understands the intricacies of merging third party operations with internal processes.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all technical integrations for the Digital Distribution team’s portfolio of 40+ partners in partnership with Product and Editorial.
- Work with OTT channel vendor Amagi to do the following:
- Launch our OTT channels on new distribution platforms.
- Troubleshoot and optimize video, meta-data, closed captioning and reporting delivery.
- Liase with Gannett’s Programmatic Ad Sales team and Amagi to optimize ad serving and ad fill rates on our OTT channels.
- Setup and lead on-going roadmap and technical/product calls for our domestic and international OTT channel feeds.
- Provide scope of work for internal and external product requests.
- Address and solve technical issues that arise.
- Present new products and features to internal stakeholders.
- Manage service orders, price approvals, and invoices.
- Provide regular analysis and insights to the Digital Distribution team to support business decisions.
- Work directly with partners to gain an understanding of best practices on technical integration and workflow.
- Support day-to-day partner technical discussion.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of competitive marketplace and provide team with regular briefings.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 8+years in a digital operations role at a media company.
- Comprehensive understanding of video delivery systems, OTT, VOD, reporting APIs, CMS integrations and feed management.
- Prior experience with OTT TV channels a significant plus.
- Experience working with multiple departments and stakeholders.
- Experience supporting partner-facing executives.
- Strategic thinker, self-starter, and creative problem solver.
- Superior Excel and PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent communicator in written and verbal form.
- Extremely versatile, dedicated to efficient productivity.
